The Vice-Chancellor position at the University of Jos is set to become vacant on December 1, 2026.
Pursuant to the provisions of the University of Jos Act, CAP U8, within the Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, as amended by the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) (Amendment) Act, 2003, and in accordance with the Conditions and Scheme of Service applicable to Senior Staff, the Governing Council of the University has formally approved the advertisement for the Vice-Chancellor position.

The Vice-Chancellor is responsible for overseeing the University’s operations, serving as its Chief Executive, Chief Academic Officer, and Chief Accounting Officer. In this role, they will lead and coordinate the institution’s activities to ensure alignment with strategic goals and institutional integrity.

The individual in this role must also work closely with party leaders to advance the Senate’s agenda while upholding the institution’s traditions and integrity.
The presiding officer of the congregation, responsible for leading meetings, ensuring adherence to established procedures, and representing the group in official capacities. This role involves facilitating discussions, maintaining order, and overseeing the implementation of decisions made by the congregation’s members. The chairman ensures that all meetings are conducted in accordance with the by laws and organizational policies, while fostering an environment of collaboration and mutual respect among participants.
This role is tasked with upholding excellence in research, teaching, and learning, while ensuring the necessary standards for student admission, well-being, and discipline.
Oversee a comprehensive range of duties, including the development and execution of strategic initiatives, project management, and the optimization of operational workflows to enhance efficiency and productivity. Tenute and Conditions:
This role is designated for a fixed, non-renewable five-year term.
The compensation package, along with additional benefits, will align with the approved standards set by the Federal Government for Nigerian Federal Universities and may be subject to adjustments as determined by the Governing Council of the University of Jos at any given time.
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of three years of experience in a related field, with a strong background in project management and exceptional communication skills. You should hold a university degree from an accredited institution.
Candidates must possess a minimum of 15 years of continuous teaching and research experience within an accredited university system, including at least 10 years serving as a distinguished Professor with proven expertise in academic, research, administrative, and managerial leadership.
Candidates must currently hold a Teaching and Research position at a reputable university that is equivalent in standing to the University of Jos.
You must provide documented proof of securing funded research grants and engaging in collaborative research projects with both local and international agencies, all aimed at enhancing the university’s academic standing.
