Job Summary:

The ART nurse plays a pivotal role in facilitating the seamless execution of the ART service delivery framework within the facility. In this capacity, the nurse provides hands-on support to both the health facility and community-based HIV prevention initiatives, while enhancing the efficiency of referral and linkage systems.

Performs a range of critical duties and fulfills key responsibilities to ensure operational effectiveness and organizational success.

Working in partnership with the facility’s medical officer, clinical staff, pharmacists, laboratory personnel, traditional birth attendants, and mentor mothers, the role ensures the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based antiretroviral therapy (ART), prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT), prevention, and tuberculosis (TB) services.

Deliver comprehensive HIV testing and counseling services to pregnant and breastfeeding women, ensuring access to essential healthcare interventions during this critical period.

Ensure timely early infant diagnosis and consistent follow-up for HIV-exposed infants.

Provide ongoing support to maintain the engagement of mother-baby pairs in healthcare services.

Provide guidance and encouragement to fellow healthcare professionals to enhance their skills and performance.

Attend various training sessions, meetings, and professional development programs to enhance skills and knowledge.

Develop and enhance the PITCH program within the designated healthcare facilities.

Delivers expert nursing care, including specialized treatments such as wound care or dressing changes.

Administers medication according to prescribed orders while operating within the legally defined boundaries of the licensee’s professional scope of practice.

Deliver counseling services focused on adherence while enhancing treatment literacy.

Actively engages in team meetings and collaborative discussions as assigned.

You may be called upon to serve as a team lead within the facility, providing oversight and support for patient care delivery.

Documents patient care activities, including charting and medication administration, in strict adherence to established protocols.

Delivers comprehensive education to patients and their families regarding care plans, treatment options, and health management strategies to promote understanding and adherence to medical advice.

Maintain compliance with infection prevention and control protocols at all times.

She should possess strong teamwork skills and demonstrated leadership capabilities.

Demonstrates sound judgment and proficient decision-making capabilities in various situations.

Maintains strict adherence to patient confidentiality protocols to safeguard sensitive information.

Monitors and promptly communicates any notable alterations in the patient’s physical condition to the registered nurse and/or attending physician.

Build and maintain robust internal and external patient referral networks, ensuring seamless transitions of care between facilities and healthcare providers.

Collaborate effectively with the prevention coordinator to oversee the work of community program staff, guaranteeing targets are met while ensuring reports are prepared and disseminated promptly.

Accurate and prompt documentation of all delivered services must be maintained, encompassing the completion of registers, electronic medical records (EMR’s), and reporting tools.

Develop and execute operational research methodologies to address critical inquiries pertaining to AHF’s treatment and prevention initiatives.

Performs additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Education and Experience:

Holding a university degree in nursing or possessing an equivalent qualification is a fundamental requirement for the position.

Seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Midwife (RM) with additional relevant certifications and a minimum of five years of professional experience in the field.

Professional rewrite:
