Job Summary:

The ART nurse collaborates closely with clinicians to facilitate the seamless execution of ART service delivery throughout the facility. Additionally, the nurse will provide direct support to both health facility and community-based HIV prevention initiatives while enhancing referral and linkage systems.

Oversee and execute all key duties and responsibilities within this role, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives. Perform essential functions that contribute to the overall success of the position, including but not limited to managing daily operations, supporting team objectives, and maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures. Handle core responsibilities that demand attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. Ensure adherence to job requirements while fulfilling the position’s critical duties in a professional and efficient manner.

In partnership with the facility medical officer, clinicians, pharmacists, laboratory team, traditional birth attendants (Teas), and mentor mothers, the role ensures the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based antiretroviral therapy (ART), prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT), prevention, and tuberculosis (TB) services.

Offer comprehensive HIV testing and counseling services to pregnant and breastfeeding women.

Facilitate timely early infant diagnosis and comprehensive follow-up care for infants exposed to HIV.

Facilitate the sustained engagement of mother-infant dyads within healthcare services to ensure continued access to necessary medical and support resources.

Provide guidance and assistance to fellow healthcare professionals to foster their growth and development.

Attend and actively engage in various trainings, meetings, and professional development initiatives to enhance skills and knowledge.

Develop and scale up the PITCH program within the designated health facilities.

Delivers expert nursing interventions, including but not limited to wound care management and dressing changes, to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Administers medications as prescribed, adhering strictly to the authorized scope of practice for the licensed professional.

Offer guidance on adherence to prescribed protocols and facilitate a deeper understanding of treatment methodologies.

Actively engages in team meetings and discussions as deemed necessary by management.

May serve in a team leadership capacity at the facility, providing oversight and coordinating the delivery of patient care services.

Documents patient observations and medication administration in accordance with established protocols.

Delivers comprehensive education sessions to patients and their families, ensuring they fully grasp pertinent health information and care instructions.

Maintain strict adherence to established infection prevention and control protocols.

A strong capacity for teamwork and leadership is essential.

Demonstrates sound judgment and critical decision-making abilities in various situations.

Maintains strict adherence to patient confidentiality protocols at all times.

Observes and promptly communicates any substantial alterations in the patient’s physical condition to the registered nurse or the attending medical provider.

Facilitate and maintain strong connections and seamless referrals of patients both within and beyond the facility.

Collaborate closely with the prevention coordinator to provide supervision for community program staff, guaranteeing the fulfillment of objectives and the prompt completion and distribution of reports.

Maintain precise and prompt documentation of all services rendered, including the completion of registers, electronic medical records (EMR), and reporting tools.

Develop and execute operational research protocols to address critical inquiries pertaining to AHF’s treatment and prevention initiatives.

Performs additional responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Education and Experience: A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is essential, with a minimum of five years of professional experience in [specific industry or role]. Candidates must possess strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, along with excellent communication skills. Prior leadership or management experience is preferred but not mandatory. Familiarity with industry-specific tools and software is required, and a proven track record of delivering measurable results is highly desirable.

A university degree in nursing or an equivalent qualification is required for this position.

RN/RM with additional certification(s) and a minimum of five years of relevant experience.

Minimum of three years of professional experience in the administration of HIV programs is required.

A strong understanding of Nigeria’s Minimum Prevention Package is imperative.

Must demonstrate exceptional organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Exceptional proficiency in crafting comprehensive reports and delivering clear, impactful communication is essential.

Professionals in this role must uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct and maintain strict confidentiality regarding all matters pertaining to clients affected by HIV/AIDS.

Demonstrates strong competency in utilizing Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint with efficiency and precision is a key requirement.
