Position Summary
The Agricultural Recovery Officer will oversee the execution of FBI’s Agricultural Recovery Program in Benue State. This position entails identifying and securing food recovery opportunities from commercial farms, smallholder farmers, cooperatives, aggregators, and produce markets, as well as coordinating the redistribution of recovered produce through FBI’s network of beneficiary organizations across the state.
Oversee a range of critical duties including the development and implementation of strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives. Lead cross-functional teams to execute projects efficiently, maintaining clear communication and collaboration throughout each phase. Monitor performance metrics to identify trends, assess progress, and implement corrective actions as needed. Uphold compliance with industry regulations and internal policies while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Serve as a primary point of contact for stakeholders, providing timely updates and resolving escalated issues with professionalism.
Cultivate and sustain collaborative relationships with farmers, cooperatives, aggregators, produce markets, processors, and other relevant stakeholders to streamline the process of surplus food recovery.
Oversee the retrieval, processing, and dissemination of excess farm produce while ensuring compliance with established organizational protocols and stringent food safety regulations.
Develop and maintain strong partnerships with beneficiary organizations while overseeing the strategic allocation of food resources to guarantee timely and effective distribution to at-risk populations.
Conducting field assessments, monitoring visits, and data collection initiatives is essential to ensuring effective program implementation and maintaining accountability.
Accurately document all food recovery activities, distribution efforts, beneficiaries served, and partner collaborations.
Prepare regular reports, actively support program learning initiatives, measure impact, and engage stakeholders as part of ongoing efforts.
Uphold adherence to established organizational policies, security protocols, and donor-established guidelines to maintain operational integrity and regulatory compliance.
Act as the program’s ambassador in stakeholder meetings, community interactions, and pertinent forums to ensure effective representation and engagement.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is required. Minimum of five years of experience in software development is essential. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++ is necessary. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment are critical. Experience with cloud platforms like AWS or Azure is preferred. Excellent communication skills for both technical and non-technical stakeholders are a must. Knowledge of Agile methodologies and version control systems is required.
A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Food Science, Agribusiness, Agricultural Extension, Rural Development, Supply Chain Management, or a related discipline is required.
A minimum of three years of professional experience in agriculture, food security, livelihoods, food systems, supply chain management, post-harvest handling, or community development programs is required.
Desired experience includes collaboration with farmers, agricultural cooperatives, marketplaces, or initiatives focused on food security.
Proficient in implementing strategies to minimize post-harvest losses, optimize food recovery systems, and enhance the efficiency of agricultural value chains.
Proven expertise in gathering data, overseeing ongoing operations, conducting evaluations, and preparing comprehensive reports.
The ideal candidate must possess a robust set of skills and professional competencies to excel in this role. Strong analytical abilities are essential for evaluating complex data and deriving actionable insights. Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, are crucial for collaborating effectively with stakeholders and conveying information clearly. Possesses in-depth knowledge of Benue State’s agricultural sector and its surrounding communities.
