Position Summary
The Agricultural Recovery Officer will oversee the execution of FBI’s Agricultural Recovery Program in Benue State. This position entails identifying and securing food recovery opportunities from commercial farms, smallholder farmers, cooperatives, aggregators, and produce markets, as well as coordinating the redistribution of recovered produce through FBI’s network of beneficiary organizations across the state.
Responsibilities include leading cross-functional teams to execute strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and timelines. Duties encompass developing and implementing policies, procedures, and performance metrics to enhance operational efficiency. Additionally, this role involves analyzing market trends, evaluating business opportunities, and presenting data-driven recommendations to senior leadership. The successful candidate will oversee budget planning, financial forecasting, and resource allocation to optimize productivity and profitability. Collaboration with department heads and stakeholders will be essential to foster innovation and drive sustainable growth. Furthermore, the position requires monitoring industry developments, assessing competitive landscapes, and adapting strategies to maintain a market-leading position.
We forge and sustain strategic alliances with farmers, cooperatives, aggregators, produce markets, processors, and other key stakeholders to enable the efficient recovery of surplus food.
Oversee the retrieval, processing, and allocation of excess farm products in strict adherence to established organizational protocols and food safety regulations.
Oversee collaborations with beneficiary organizations and orchestrate food allocation processes to optimize delivery to at-risk populations.
Perform on-site evaluations, oversight visits, and systematic data collection efforts to facilitate program execution and ensure accountability.
Accurately document all food recovery activities, distribution efforts, beneficiaries served, and partner collaborations.
Prepare regular reports and support program learning initiatives, impact assessment, and stakeholder engagement efforts.
Ensure adherence to established organizational policies, security protocols, and donor-specified guidelines.
Serve as the program’s official representative at various stakeholder meetings, community events, and industry forums.
Seeking a highly motivated individual with a minimum of three years of relevant experience in the field. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional problem-solving skills, a strong attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is required, along with excellent written and verbal communication abilities. A bachelor’s degree in a related discipline is preferred, though equivalent professional experience may be considered. The role demands adaptability to changing priorities, a commitment to continuous learning, and a passion for delivering high-quality results in a fast-paced environment.
A relevant bachelor’s degree in fields such as Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Food Science, Agribusiness, Agricultural Extension, Rural Development, Supply Chain Management, or a closely related discipline is required.
A minimum of three years of hands-on experience in agriculture, food security, livelihoods, food systems, supply chain management, post-harvest handling, or community development programs is required.
Experience in collaboration with agricultural producers, cooperative associations, market systems, or food security programs is strongly preferred.
Proficiency in reducing post-harvest losses, implementing food recovery strategies, and optimizing agricultural value chains is required.
Skilled in gathering data, tracking progress, analyzing results, and compiling comprehensive reports to support informed decision-making.
The ideal candidate must demonstrate a comprehensive set of technical and interpersonal skills, along with proven competencies in specific areas of expertise. Proficiency in relevant software, tools, or methodologies is essential, as is the ability to analyze complex problems and devise effective solutions.
