The Vice-Chancellor position at the University of Jos is set to become vacant effective December 1, 2026.

Pursuant to the University of Jos Act, CAP U8, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, as amended by the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) (Amendment) Act, 2003, and in compliance with the Conditions and Scheme of Service for Senior Staff, the Governing Council of the University has approved the advertisement for the Vice-Chancellor position.

The Vice-Chancellor is responsible for overseeing the University’s overall operations, serving as its Chief Executive, Chief Academic Officer, and Chief Accounting Officer. This role involves convening and leading meetings, guiding decision-making processes, and representing the Congregation in external engagements, including interactions with community stakeholders, partner organizations, and regulatory bodies. The Chairman serves as a primary liaison between the Congregation’s leadership and its members, ensuring transparent communication, accountability, and the effective implementation of policies and initiatives. This role requires the ability to lead transformative initiatives, cultivate strategic partnerships, and allocate resources efficiently to support institutional growth and innovation. The Vice-Chancellor must uphold governance standards, promote diversity and inclusion, and maintain transparency in decision-making processes. Tenute and Conditions:

The position is designated for a fixed term of five years, renewable upon expiration.

The compensation package and additional benefits will align with those approved by the Federal Government for Nigerian Federal Universities and may also be subject to adjustments by the Governing Council of the University of Jos as necessary.

Requires a minimum of three years of hands-on experience in a related field, along with a bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline. Proficiency in industry-standard software and tools is essential, along with strong problem-solving abilities. Candidates must demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to collaborate effectively across teams. A commitment to continuous learning and adaptability to evolving technologies is expected. Additionally, prior experience in project management or leadership roles is highly desirable.

Candidates should hold a recognized university degree from an accredited institution.

Applicants must possess a minimum of fifteen (15) consecutive years of teaching and research experience within a reputable university system, including at least a decade of distinguished service as a Professor. Candidates must currently hold a Teaching and Research appointment at a reputable university of equivalent standing to the University of Jos.
