HMO health insurance is a type of coverage that typically requires policyholders to select a primary care physician (PCP) from a network of providers. Coverage is generally limited to care received from in-network doctors, specialists, or hospitals, except in emergencies. Referrals from the PCP are often necessary to see specialists, and out-of-pocket costs, such as copayments or deductibles, may apply for certain services. This model emphasizes preventive care and coordinated treatment through a designated healthcare team.
