An accomplished Legal Officer is sought to deliver expert legal advice, oversee contract administration, ensure regulatory compliance, manage litigation, and uphold corporate governance obligations. The preferred applicant will demonstrate a robust background in commercial law, exceptional proficiency in contract drafting, and prior experience in the financial services industry.

Oversee a comprehensive range of duties encompassing strategic planning, team leadership, and operational execution to drive organizational success. Serve as the primary point of contact for cross-functional collaboration, ensuring seamless communication and alignment with stakeholders at all levels. Develop and implement policies, procedures, and performance metrics to enhance efficiency, productivity, and compliance with industry regulations. Manage financial planning, budget allocation, and resource optimization to maximize return on investment while adhering to fiscal constraints. Lead talent acquisition, professional development, and employee engagement initiatives to cultivate a high-performing, motivated workforce. Monitor industry trends, competitive landscapes, and market dynamics to identify opportunities for innovation and sustainable growth.

Offer strategic legal guidance and operational support to business units across diverse legal and regulatory issues.

Draft, prepare, and finalize a variety of legal documents such as loan agreements, deeds of assignment, demand letters, contracts, legal opinions, and memoranda, while also overseeing their review and engaging in negotiations to ensure compliance and mutual understanding.

Oversee contract administration and ensure the meticulous organization of legal documents and agreements within a structured database.

Coordinate and oversee litigation matters, collaborating with external legal representatives while ensuring accurate and up-to-date litigation records are maintained.

Provide assistance in managing dispute resolution procedures while helping to address customer complaints that involve legal considerations.

Maintain adherence to all relevant legal requirements, regulatory mandates, and established industry best practices.

Facilitate corporate governance initiatives by preparing and maintaining essential documentation, such as board materials, meeting minutes, and statutory records.

Perform comprehensive legal research and deliver analytical insights to facilitate informed business decisions.

Monitor regulatory developments and provide guidance to leadership regarding new legal and compliance obligations.

Deliver comprehensive legal awareness training sessions and compliance workshops to employees.

Participate in pertinent meetings and, as needed, compile and produce legal reports and documentation.

Execute additional legal and administrative responsibilities as directed by management.

Requirements:

A recognized institution must confer a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree.

Must hold current admission to the Nigerian Bar and maintain an active practicing license.

A minimum of six years of post-call experience obtained in either a commercial law firm or a corporate legal department is required.

Candidates with prior involvement in financial services, fintech, lending, microfinance, or banking industries will be given strong consideration.

Proficient in commercial law, contract administration, litigation procedures, regulatory adherence, and corporate governance frameworks.

Proficiency in consumer lending or credit operations represents a valuable asset.

Accomplished legal drafting, negotiation, analytical reasoning, and communication capabilities.

Demonstrates exceptional precision, a polished demeanor, and the ability to make well-reasoned decisions.
