MSHE Homes Limited is in search of a meticulous Cost Accountant who will deliver precise cost analysis, enforce financial controls, and generate contract cost reports for the company’s real estate development and construction initiatives.

Oversee and execute a range of critical duties, including the management of daily operations, project oversight, and strategic planning, to ensure organizational objectives are met efficiently. Develop and implement policies, procedures, and workflows that enhance productivity, compliance, and overall performance. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align efforts, resolve challenges, and drive continuous improvement across departments. Monitor key performance indicators to evaluate progress, identify areas for enhancement, and implement data-driven solutions. Serve as a liaison between senior leadership and operational staff, facilitating clear communication and fostering a culture of accountability and innovation. Ensure adherence to industry regulations, safety standards, and best practices while maintaining a focus on sustainability and ethical business conduct.

Oversee and document all expenditures related to construction and real estate agreements, verifying that costs adhere strictly to predefined financial parameters.

Responsibilities include verifying contractor and subcontractor invoices, progress claims, and payment certificates against agreed contract schedules and completed work to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Develop and manage contract cost schedules, cash flow projections, and cost-to-complete estimates for all ongoing development projects.

Analyze contract modifications, change orders, and claims to evaluate their financial implications and provide strategic guidance to the Contract Management team.

Early detection and escalation of cost overruns, financial irregularities, or risks are essential, with suggested corrective measures to be implemented promptly.

Responsibilities include developing monthly, quarterly, and project-end cost reports to analyze budget versus actual performance, identify variances, and assess financial risks.

To perform comprehensive cost evaluations encompassing materials, labor, plant operations, and overhead expenses, thereby facilitating well-informed financial decision-making.

Reconcile contract-related expenditures within the accounting framework, guaranteeing precise assignment to designated project cost centers and general ledger accounts.

Provide assistance in the development and oversight of project budgets, performing continuous variance analysis, and suggesting measures to control costs effectively.

Provide support in evaluating contractors and suppliers by examining Bills of Quantities, pricing schedules, and rate analyses to verify cost-effectiveness.

Ensure meticulous documentation and compliance of all contract cost transactions with established company financial policies, applicable accounting standards, and Nigerian regulatory requirements.

Facilitate internal and external audit functions by delivering precise cost data, supporting documentation, and financial records as mandated.

Seeking a candidate with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, complemented by a minimum of three years of hands-on experience in software development. Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or C++ is essential, along with a solid understanding of algorithms and data structures. Familiarity with database management systems, version control tools, and software development methodologies like Agile or Scrum is highly desirable. Strong problem-solving skills, excellent communication abilities, and a collaborative mindset are required to thrive in this role.

A degree or Higher National Diploma in Accounting, Finance, Quantity Surveying, or an equivalent field is required.

A professional certification or membership from ICAN, ARCA, CIA, or NILS would be considered advantageous.

Minimum of three to five years of professional experience in cost accounting or project cost control, ideally within the construction or real estate sectors.

Proficiency in evaluating Bills of Quantities (BOQ’s), conducting contract valuations, and certifying contractor payments is required.

A strong command of advanced Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP software is required, along with a solid understanding of Nigerian tax regulations—specifically, Withholding Tax (WHT) and Value-Added Tax (VAT)—relevant to construction contracts.
