Job Purpose

As the Senior Legal Counsel for Contracts, you will serve as the commercial architect of Midpoint’s highest-impact transactions, driving strategic initiatives with speed and innovation while upholding rigorous standards of security and compliance.

This position goes beyond merely identifying risks—it involves devising innovative, evidence-based, and straightforward solutions to advance the company’s objectives. You will spearhead our strategy for intricate technology agreements, corporate finance initiatives, and mergers and acquisitions, guaranteeing that each contract aligns with our expertise while upholding our commitment to fostering financial well-being.

Oversee and execute a comprehensive range of critical duties, including but not limited to strategic planning, operational oversight, and team leadership to achieve organizational objectives. Implement and maintain efficient processes to streamline workflows, enhance productivity, and ensure adherence to established policies and procedures. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for improvement, drive innovation, and foster a culture of accountability and excellence. Monitor performance metrics, analyze data trends, and generate actionable insights to support informed decision-making and continuous growth. Ensure compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and ethical guidelines while maintaining a high level of professionalism and integrity.

Drive the development, negotiation, and finalization of intricate commercial agreements, spanning SaaS, licensing, and payment partnerships.

Master intricate specifics with precision: deliver comprehensible, straightforward legal counsel regarding contractual risks and liabilities, ensuring clarity without reliance on technical jargon. Your role involves elucidating the underlying rationale behind contractual provisions and their implications.

Craft scalable solutions by developing and managing contract templates and operational playbooks to ensure uniform legal processes worldwide.

Safeguard our intellectual property by providing strategic guidance on intellectual property matters, licensing frameworks, and data protection measures to ensure Midpoint retains control over its innovations.

Lead the expansion of corporate finance initiatives by providing strategic legal guidance for debt and equity financing endeavors, while overseeing the full legal trajectory of mergers, acquisitions, and investment transactions.

Collaborate closely with finance professionals, strategic planners, and external advisors to guarantee the precise execution of our transactions.

Monitor operational performance by overseeing contractual compliance and proactively addressing evolving regulatory requirements to maintain alignment with organizational obligations.

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience is required. Proficiency in [specific software/tools] and strong analytical skills are essential. Candidates must demonstrate excellent communication abilities and the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively within a team. A minimum of [X] years of experience in [specific industry/role] is preferred. Knowledge of [industry-specific regulations or standards] is advantageous. A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree and a Qualifying Certificate from the Nigerian Law School are required.

Proven track record of successfully directing corporate finance initiatives and executing mergers and acquisitions transactions.

Proficiency in navigating the fintech or banking regulatory environment is essential.

Proven expertise in creating documentation that is concise, straightforward, and legally sound.

Preferred Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, along with three or more years of professional experience in a similar role. Familiarity with industry-specific software and tools is also required, and prior leadership or project management experience is highly advantageous. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail are essential, along with the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment. Proficiency in a high-velocity scale-up or international fintech setting is essential.
