Job Overview
The Health and Safety Officer (Transport) is tasked with guaranteeing that all transportation operations within Denote Cement Transport adhere to applicable health and safety regulations. Responsibilities
Craft and enforce health and safety policies and procedures specifically tailored to transportation operations.
Perform routine inspections and audits to verify adherence to all applicable local and federal safety regulations.
Deliver instructional sessions and ongoing support to transportation personnel regarding safety protocols, emergency response protocols, and proper handling of equipment.
Evaluate potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate them within transportation operations.
Conduct thorough examinations of accidents and incidents to identify underlying causes, then develop and propose effective corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
Responsible for maintaining accurate safety records and generating detailed reports on transportation safety performance.
Collaborate with local governing entities and regulatory agencies to ensure adherence to transportation safety regulations.
Serve as an intermediary to address and resolve safety-related matters concerning the transportation fleet and its drivers.
Assess the performance of current safety initiatives and propose enhancements to bolster their efficacy.
Engage in safety meetings by delivering key safety data and insights to management, ensuring informed decision-making and proactive risk mitigation.
Seeking a candidate with a minimum of three years of relevant experience, along with proficiency in project management tools and software. The ideal applicant will possess strong analytical capabilities, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. A bachelor’s degree in a related field is required, and certification in project management is highly desirable. Additionally, the role demands adaptability to changing priorities, meticulous attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality results within established deadlines.
A Bachelor of Science degree in Safety Management, Environmental Science, or an equivalent discipline is required.
A recognized qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, such as a BOSH, JOSH, or an equivalent certification, is essential.
A minimum of two years of hands-on experience in a safety-focused position within either the transportation or logistics industry is required.
A degree in Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a closely related field, preferably within the sciences or engineering disciplines, is required.
A recognized qualification, such as a Professional Certificate or Diploma in fire safety, health, environmental management, or related fields, is advantageous. Examples of such credentials include BOSH, IGC, or NVQ Level 6.
Proficient in fleet safety management principles and practices is essential for this role. A solid understanding of safety protocols, risk assessment methodologies, and regulatory compliance is required to ensure the protection of drivers, vehicles, and company assets. Experience in implementing and monitoring safety initiatives, conducting inspections, and fostering a culture of safety awareness are key responsibilities. Familiarity with industry standards and the ability to identify potential hazards and mitigate risks are also necessary to maintain operational excellence and regulatory adherence.
