The Drill Locator (Skilled) – HDD Operations is a full-time, on-site position situated in Lagos. This role entails operating and overseeing horizontal directional drilling machinery to support construction and maintenance projects. The Drill Locator is tasked with planning, monitoring, and directing drill trajectories during Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) operations, ensuring precise underground utility placement while safeguarding existing infrastructure from potential damage.
Oversee and execute core responsibilities including the development and implementation of strategies to enhance operational efficiency and productivity. Lead and manage cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with organizational goals and objectives. Monitor performance metrics and provide actionable insights to drive continuous improvement. Collaborate with stakeholders across departments to identify opportunities for innovation and growth. Ensure compliance with industry regulations and internal policies while maintaining high standards of quality and service. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and excellence within the team.
Plan and develop horizontal directional drilling (HDD) bore routes by analyzing project drawings and utility maps in detail.
Establish and verify the operational readiness of high-definition digital (HDD) locating and tracking systems through precise calibration procedures.
Provide real-time, on-site direction to drilling crews by continuously tracking and interpreting drill head positioning, ensuring precision and alignment with operational objectives.
Locate and circumvent underground utilities and third-party infrastructure to prevent potential conflicts or hazards.
Analyze and resolve drilling-related issues by identifying root causes and proposing appropriate corrective measures.
Maintain precise records of drilling activities, generate detailed reports, and ensure thorough quality assurance documentation.
Requirements
A minimum of an SSC or HND/B.Sc. in Engineering, Telecommunications, Applied Sciences, or an equivalent discipline is required.
Minimum requirement includes two years of hands-on experience in the role of Drill Locator specifically within Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) operations.
Demonstrates expertise in operating HDD locating equipment and utility detection systems.
Proficient in analyzing technical drawings and utility maps with accuracy and precision.
Effective interpersonal communication, analytical problem-solving abilities, and collaborative teamwork are essential.
Proficiency in HSE standards and underground utility installation methodologies is required.
