The Drill Locator (Skilled) – HDD Operations is a full-time, on-site position located in Lagos. This role encompasses the operation and management of horizontal directional drilling equipment for construction and maintenance projects. Responsibilities include planning, monitoring, and directing drill paths during Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) operations to ensure precise underground utility installation and minimize the risk of damage to existing infrastructure.

Oversee and execute critical duties encompassing the development and implementation of strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to drive project milestones, monitor progress, and deliver measurable outcomes within specified timelines. Analyze operational challenges, identify innovative solutions, and optimize processes to enhance efficiency and productivity. Maintain clear communication channels with stakeholders to provide regular updates, gather feedback, and address concerns proactively. Ensure adherence to industry standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices to uphold organizational integrity and compliance. Lead and mentor team members, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional growth.

Develop HDD bore routes by analyzing project drawings and utility maps to ensure accurate planning and preparation.

Establish and fine-tune high-definition equipment for locating and tracking hard disk drives.

Provide continuous oversight of drill head positioning while delivering immediate, actionable guidance to drilling operators to ensure precision and operational efficiency.

Locate and circumvent existing underground utilities and external infrastructure to prevent interference.

Diagnose drilling-related issues and propose appropriate solutions to rectify operational challenges.

Ensure meticulous documentation of drilling activities through precise record-keeping, comprehensive reports, and adherence to quality assurance protocols.

Requirements

A degree or diploma in Engineering, Telecommunications, Applied Sciences, or an equivalent discipline from a recognized institution, such as SSC, HND, or B.Sc., is required.

A minimum of two years of hands-on experience in the role of a Drill Locator within Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) operations is required.

Demonstrates expertise in operating HDD locating equipment and utility detection systems with precision and reliability.

Proficient in analyzing and understanding technical drawings and utility maps.

Exceptional interpersonal, analytical, and collaborative abilities are essential for this role. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in clear and effective communication, structured problem-solving approaches, and seamless team integration to achieve shared objectives.

Proficient in HSE standards and underground utility installation methodologies.
