Job Summary

A distinguished Microfinance Bank headquartered in Elite State is in search of a seasoned professional with strong analytical capabilities, a commitment to objectivity, and extensive experience to fill the role of Head, Audit and Risk Management (HARM).

The ideal candidate will deliver unbiased assurance and advisory services that enhance the bank’s operational efficiency and effectiveness. Functionally accountable to the Board Audit & Risk Management Committee and administratively to the Managing Director/CEO, the Head of Audit, Risk, and Compliance (HARD) will supervise the internal audit, risk management, and regulatory compliance frameworks to protect the bank’s assets and maintain operational integrity.

Oversee and execute a comprehensive range of critical duties, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and operational standards. Develop, implement, and monitor strategic initiatives to enhance efficiency, productivity, and overall performance. Collaborate cross-functionally with diverse teams to foster innovation, streamline processes, and achieve key milestones. Maintain rigorous adherence to compliance requirements, industry regulations, and internal policies while mitigating risks and addressing operational challenges. Provide leadership in project management, resource allocation, and stakeholder communication to drive sustainable growth and organizational success.

Develop and execute a robust, risk-focused annual internal audit strategy to assess the efficacy of the bank’s internal controls and accounting frameworks.

Identify, evaluate, assess, and mitigate operational, credit, liquidity, and strategic risks across all departments and branches through a comprehensive Risk Management Framework.

Ensure strict adherence to regulations issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), compliance with stipulations from the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), and fulfillment of all applicable statutory obligations.

Internal Control Evaluation involves examining control mechanisms, credit disbursement processes, and financial transactions to identify and mitigate errors, fraud, or inefficiencies.

Investigations & Reviews: Spearhead in-depth inquiries into potential fraudulent conduct, policy violations, or operational inefficiencies, and propose remedial measures to address findings.

Prepare and deliver comprehensive, unbiased periodic reports on audit outcomes, risk exposures, and compliance status for presentation to the Board Audit Committee and Executive Management.

Seeking a highly motivated candidate with a minimum of five years of relevant experience in a similar role. Proficiency in industry-specific software and tools is essential, along with a strong background in project management and strategic planning. Excellent communication skills are required to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. A bachelor’s degree in a related field is mandatory, and any advanced certifications will be viewed favorably. The ideal applicant must demonstrate a track record of meeting deadlines, solving complex problems, and driving process improvements. Familiarity with compliance standards and regulatory requirements is also a key expectation.

Candidates must hold at least a Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.

We seek candidates with a minimum of five to eight years of experience in the financial services sector, including at least three years in a leadership or managerial capacity within Internal Audit, Risk Management, or Compliance roles at a Microfinance Bank or Deposit Money Bank.

Professional membership is a prerequisite for this position, and candidates must possess recognized qualifications such as ACA (ICAN), ARCA, or CIA, in accordance with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s fit and proper criteria. Additionally, holding an ACID designation would be highly beneficial.

Highly preferred are certifications demonstrating enrollment in or completion of the Microfinance Certification Program (MCP).

Demonstrates proficiency in internal audit methodologies, risk assessment frameworks, financial fraud detection, and compliance with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Revised Regulatory & Supervisory Guidelines for Microfinance Banks.

Professional skepticism at a high level, unwavering integrity, sharp analytical reasoning, and outstanding reporting capabilities are essential.
