Job Summary

A well-established and expanding Microfinance Bank headquartered in Elite State is currently seeking a detail-oriented, compliance-focused, and highly qualified finance professional to assume the role of Account Officer (Financial Control & Regulatory Returns).

Reporting directly to the Head of Financial Control (HFC), the successful candidate will assume a pivotal role in safeguarding the bank’s financial records, ensuring full compliance with Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and FDIC regulatory reporting frameworks, and overseeing routine accounting operations.

Oversee a comprehensive range of duties essential to the role, including but not limited to strategic planning, team leadership, and operational execution. Collaborate with cross-functional departments to align goals, streamline processes, and enhance productivity. Monitor performance metrics to identify opportunities for improvement and implement data-driven solutions. Ensure adherence to company policies, industry regulations, and quality standards. Provide mentorship and guidance to team members to foster professional growth and maintain high performance levels. Serve as a key liaison between senior management and operational staff to facilitate clear communication and decision-making.

Prepare, review, and deliver statutory returns to the Central Bank of Nigeria (via FINA or relevant platforms), the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), and other regulatory bodies with precision, timeliness, and accuracy on a daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis.

Maintain precise general ledger accounts, validate postings, and ensure every financial transaction adheres to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and applicable national accounting regulations.

Conduct regular and meticulous bank reconciliations, inter-branch account reconciliations, and balance sheet reviews to identify and address discrepancies in a timely manner.

Provide support in calculating, submitting, and paying all applicable statutory taxes, including Withholding Tax (WHT), Value Added Tax (VAT), and Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) to both state and federal tax authorities.

Provide budgetary support by collaborating with the Head of Financial Control to develop annual budgets, implement budgetary control processes, and conduct variance analyses.

Maintain and update the bank’s fixed asset register with precision, ensuring accurate tracking of depreciation and capital expenditures.

Qualifications & Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a closely related field is required.

Requires at least two to four years of hands-on accounting or financial control experience in a regulated financial institution, with preference given to candidates from Microfinance Banks or Deposit Money Banks.

Possesses a comprehensive grasp of the CBN Revised Regulatory and Supervisory Guidelines for Microfinance Banks, IFRS standards, and prescribed financial return formats.

Professional certifications such as partial or complete completion of recognized qualifications like ICAN (ACA), ARCA, or CBN (ACID) will be highly advantageous.

We seek a candidate with strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and practical experience utilizing modern Core Banking Applications (CBA) as well as regulatory reporting portals.
