Sage Transport Limited is seeking a high-impact, commercially astute Business Head to build and scale its interstate transport operations, commencing with the South-Western corridor.
This role carries full strategic and operational ownership of the business line, with responsibility for market entry, operational excellence, financial performance, and long-term expansion. The ideal candidate will combine deep industry expertise with strong execution capability to deliver a profitable, reliable, and scalable transport platform.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Business Growth
Define and drive the overall vision, strategy, and market positioning for interstate transport operations
Lead market entry for priority corridors, starting with the South-West
Identify and unlock scalable growth opportunities (new routes, B2B partnerships, digital channels, ancillary services)
Translate corporate objectives into clear, executable business plans and milestones
Continuously assess market dynamics, competition, and regulatory shifts to refine strategy
P&L Ownership & Financial Performance
Own full profit and loss (P&L) accountability for the business unit
Develop, validate, and optimize revenue models, pricing strategies, and cost structures
Drive sustainable profitability through disciplined cost management and revenue optimization
Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance tracking
Ensure alignment between financial models and operational realities
Operational Excellence & Scale
Design and implement robust, scalable operating models for interstate transport
Oversee end-to-end operations: fleet management, scheduling, dispatch, route optimization, and turnaround efficiency
Establish systems to ensure high fleet availability, uptime, and asset utilization
Implement operational controls to minimize leakages, inefficiencies, and downtime
Lead continuous improvement initiatives leveraging data and performance analytics
Customer Experience & Brand Leadership
Define and institutionalize service standards across safety, punctuality, and comfort
Build a customer-centric culture and ensure consistent service delivery
Monitor and improve customer satisfaction, retention, and brand perception
Champion the development of a trusted and differentiated transport brand
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local transport regulations
Oversee licensing, insurance, safety certifications, and audit readiness
Proactively manage key risks including fuel price volatility, road safety, security, and regulatory enforcement
Build strong relationships with regulators, unions, and industry stakeholders
Leadership, Talent & Culture
Build and lead a high-performing operations and commercial team
Recruit, train, and manage drivers, operations personnel, and support staff
Establish clear KPIs, performance management systems, and accountability frameworks
Foster a culture of discipline, integrity, safety, and customer focus
Provide strong leadership in navigating formal and informal market structures
Candidate Profile
Experience & Industry Knowledge
Strong experience in Nigeria’s transport, mobility, logistics, or related sectors, with a strong preference for interstate operations in Nigeria
Demonstrated track record of building and scaling operations from inception
Deep understanding of route economics, transport unions, regulatory frameworks, and informal market dynamics
Strong ability to balance “street-level execution” with corporate governance and structure
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Logistics, Transport Management, or related field.
MBA or relevant professional certification is an added advantage (not mandatory).
