Description

Sea learn is currently seeking a distinguished Senior Lecturer in Maritime Studies to enhance our esteemed faculty. The preferred candidate will bring exceptional academic qualifications along with substantial industry expertise. Essential duties include instructing students, designing and refining curricula, as well as developing and delivering engaging instructional materials.

Simulation and practical exercises, along with research initiatives, mentorship opportunities, and contributions to the academic and professional advancement of the institution, are integral components of this role.

Oversee and execute core duties encompassing strategic planning, operational oversight, and cross-functional collaboration to drive organizational objectives. Lead initiatives that enhance efficiency, innovation, and team performance while ensuring adherence to policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements. Serve as a pivotal liaison between departments, stakeholders, and leadership to facilitate seamless communication and alignment of goals. Monitor progress through data-driven assessments, adjust strategies as needed, and report key metrics to senior management to inform decision-making. Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional development among team members.

Develop, assess, and revise curriculum content to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements—such as those outlined by the IMO/STCW—and evolving industry practices.

Develop courseware materials—such as presentations, simulation exercises, and practical mockups—with a focus on pedagogical principles to ensure optimal knowledge and skill transfer for learners.

Deliver engaging and informative lectures, seminars, and hands-on training sessions across key maritime disciplines, including navigation, marine engineering, maritime safety, cargo operations, repair and maintenance, commercial operations, environmental protection, and related fields.

Monitor and evaluate courseware created by junior faculty, offering constructive feedback and mentorship to facilitate their professional development and enhance instructional quality.

Oversee the development and evaluation of student projects, dissertations, and assessments.

Conduct in-depth research and produce scholarly articles tailored for esteemed maritime journals and industry publications. Additionally, contribute to the organizational profile by delivering insightful presentations at prestigious seminars and conferences, thereby bolstering Sea Learn’s professional reputation.

Offer mentorship and academic support to junior faculty members and students, fostering their professional and intellectual growth.

Engage actively in internal committees, contribute to quality assurance initiatives, and support accreditation-related activities.

Work collaboratively with maritime industry stakeholders and regulatory bodies to ensure training programs remain relevant and graduates achieve optimal employability.

Assist in designing and implementing Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programs to ensure their effective rollout.

Seeking candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, supplemented by a minimum of three years of relevant work experience. Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or C++ is essential, along with strong problem-solving abilities. Familiarity with software development methodologies, including Agile and DevOps, is preferred. Experience with cloud platforms like AWS or Azure is a valuable asset. Excellent communication skills and the capacity to work effectively in a collaborative team environment are required.

Hold a recognized professional certification such as a Master Class I or Marine Engineer Officer Class I Certificate of Competency, including roles like Master Mariner or Chief Engineer, issued by a respected Flag administration.

A master’s or doctoral degree in Maritime Studies, Marine Engineering, Nautical Science, or an equivalent discipline is preferred.

Holds a certification from an Administration-approved Train the Trainer program, ensuring alignment with recognized standards for instructional excellence.

The Simulator Trainer program encompasses both the Simulator Trainer course and the Assessment, Examination, and Certification of Seafarers course. Participants will engage in comprehensive training designed to equip them with the necessary skills to effectively instruct and evaluate seafarers. The course ensures thorough preparation for the responsibilities involved in assessing competency and certifying maritime professionals.

With a minimum of two decades of experience in maritime education or maritime industry roles, whether at sea or on shore, the ideal candidate will possess extensive hands-on expertise in the field.

Proficiency in international maritime regulations, specifically STCW, is required, along with demonstrated expertise in curriculum design and instruction at the higher education level.

Ideally, the candidate will have completed an instructional design training program.

Proficiency in academic research or industry-focused initiatives is highly beneficial.
