UNICEF Nigeria is recruiting a Senior International Consultant to conduct an extensive, evidence-based Gender Equality Programmatic Review (GPR). This review will evaluate the current landscape, identify gaps and opportunities, and outline strategic pathways to enhance gender integration across UNICEF Nigeria’s programming and operational frameworks. The findings will serve as a critical foundation for shaping the upcoming Country Program (2028–2032).

Key outputs for this role encompass a Desk Review Report, a Draft Mission Agenda, a Preliminary Findings Presentation, a Debrief Slide Deck, a draft Gender-Responsive Planning Report incorporating a Summary of Agreed Gender Equality Priorities, a finalized Gender-Responsive Planning Report, and a draft Gender Action Plan. These deliverables will collectively inform the Strategic Moment of Reflection scheduled for early September.

Candidates must meet the following essential qualifications to be considered for the position: a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, at least three years of professional experience in a comparable role, and proficiency in industry-standard software applications. Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills are required, along with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Familiarity with project management methodologies and a commitment to continuous learning are also necessary.

An advanced university degree, specifically a Master’s, is required in Gender Equality Studies, International Development, Social Sciences, Public Health, or a closely related discipline.

With a proven track record in the field, candidates are expected to possess relevant professional experience in [industry/role, if specified]. Employers seek individuals who have demonstrated success in similar positions, showcasing expertise and a deep understanding of industry best practices. Prior roles should highlight key accomplishments, problem-solving abilities, and a history of delivering measurable results. A minimum of eight years of comprehensive technical expertise in gender equality programming or research is required.

Experienced professionals sought to provide robust support to country program teams in conducting gender equality and/or social inclusion assessments or reviews.

With a proven track record in applying evidence-based approaches to gender equality, you will leverage research and data to inform the design and execution of impactful programs.

Proficient communication abilities, both written and verbal, are essential for effectively engaging with team members and stakeholders. Strong organizational and time management skills are necessary to prioritize tasks and meet project deadlines. Proficiency in relevant software applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite or industry-specific tools, is required. Analytical skills are important for interpreting data and making informed decisions. The ability to work collaboratively in a team environment is crucial for achieving shared objectives. Attention to detail ensures accuracy in all work deliverables. Problem-solving skills are valued for addressing challenges and identifying innovative solutions. Adaptability to changing priorities and work environments is also necessary for success in this role.

Proven track record of technical proficiency in gender equality initiatives, programs, or scholarly research.

Proficiency in integrating research-based strategies into program development and execution is essential.

Proficiency in conducting gender equality and social inclusion assessments is required.

Exceptional written and oral proficiency in English is essential, alongside demonstrated aptitude in interpersonal interactions and professional presentations.

Desirables:

Experienced in advancing gender equality and/or adolescent girl initiatives, with a strong grasp of social transformation processes.

Professional experience in sectors focused on child survival and education is required.

Conducted research or implemented program initiatives within Nigeria.

Proficiency in program planning within UNICEF or alternative United Nations agencies is required.
