Job Summary

We are searching for a proactive and meticulous Legal Officer to oversee the company’s legal operations, uphold regulatory adherence, and enhance the efficiency of debt recovery initiatives.

The successful applicant will assume a pivotal position in preserving the organization’s legal interests and concurrently facilitating seamless business operations while upholding revenue integrity.

Oversee and execute a comprehensive range of duties to ensure operational excellence, including managing day-to-day activities, coordinating team efforts, and maintaining high standards of performance. Develop and implement strategic initiatives to drive productivity and efficiency, while fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment. Monitor progress through regular evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and address any challenges proactively to uphold accountability and continuous improvement. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align objectives, streamline processes, and achieve organizational goals. Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and quality standards to mitigate risks and maintain integrity.

Offer expert legal guidance on matters pertaining to corporate governance, commercial transactions, and operational compliance to ensure alignment with regulatory standards and organizational objectives.

Draft, finalize, and coordinate contracts, agreements, and service-level agreements (SLAs) with clients and vendors to ensure mutually beneficial terms and compliance with organizational policies.

Ensure adherence to all relevant legal requirements, regulatory mandates, and established industry best practices.

Oversee litigation proceedings, resolve disputes, and coordinate with external legal counsel as necessary.

Assess potential legal risks and provide strategic counsel to senior leadership on effective mitigation measures.

Collaborate effectively with Finance and Operations teams to initiate and manage legal proceedings aimed at recovering outstanding debts.

Facilitate the formulation and implementation of internal policies and governance frameworks to ensure alignment with organizational objectives and regulatory standards.

Provide support in the preparation and submission of regulatory filings, licenses, and statutory documentation.

Offer comprehensive legal assistance to HR departments in handling various employment-related issues, such as disciplinary measures and workplace conflicts.

The ideal candidate must meet several key qualifications to be considered for this role. You should possess a minimum of five years of relevant experience in a similar position, along with a proven track record of delivering results. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential, as is the ability to work effectively both independently and within a team. Excellent communication abilities, both written and verbal, are required to convey complex ideas clearly. Proficiency in industry-standard software and tools is mandatory, and familiarity with relevant regulatory standards is highly preferred. A bachelor’s degree in a related field is necessary, and additional certifications may be advantageous.

A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree is required for this position.

Qualification for admission to the Nigerian Bar (BL) and maintaining an active status with the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) are mandatory prerequisites for this role.

Seeking candidates with three to five years of post-call experience, ideally obtained within a corporate or security services setting, to fulfill this role effectively.

Accomplished professionals in debt recovery, credit control, and litigation with a demonstrated track record of success are sought for this role.

Individuals seeking this role must demonstrate a solid understanding of Nigerian commercial and labor legislation, ensuring full compliance with statutory requirements and industry standards.

With a strong proficiency in drafting, negotiation, and communication, the ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional ability in these key areas.
