Purpose

The Staff Health Officer operates under the guidance of both the HR Officer and the Staff Health Manager, with the primary responsibility of overseeing all health-related initiatives for CRC personnel in Amateur and providing 50% support to staff in the Maiduguri Sub-delegation.

They actively cultivate and advance the CRC’s institutional strategy focused on decentralizing operational medical services, thereby improving efficiency, effectiveness, and alignment with local needs.

This role will be primarily situated in Maiduguri, with a requirement to undertake 1-2 week-long trips to Amateur on a monthly basis.

Responsibilities and essential functions include overseeing key operational tasks, ensuring adherence to established protocols, and driving performance through effective management of assigned duties. The role demands meticulous attention to detail, strong analytical capabilities, and the ability to collaborate seamlessly with cross-functional teams to achieve organizational objectives. Additionally, the position requires proficiency in relevant tools and systems, along with a commitment to maintaining high standards of accuracy and efficiency in all processes.

Conducts a detailed evaluation of health risks tailored to the specific context.

Delivers tailored health briefings to newly assigned CRC personnel and conducts exit health debriefings for those departing the organization.

Verify that all CRC staff vaccinations align with the staff health policy requirements, taking into account the availability of vaccines in the local context.

Provides medical screening consultations during recruitment and for designated professional groups, as well as conducting annual medical assessments to issue clearance for mobile personnel.

Develop and provide assistance for awareness campaigns created by the Staff Health team, tailored specifically for all Delegation staff members.

Regularly conduct First-aid training sessions for staff members in Amateur, in partnership with the State Health Management (SHM) and in collaboration with the National Society.

Upon thorough examination, validate the medical evacuation strategy for Damaturu and ensure operational readiness in Maiduguri.

Develops and maintains national benchmark frameworks for vertical health initiatives.

Maintains rigorous adherence to medical confidentiality protocols, ensuring all personal health details of CRC personnel remain strictly private. With the explicit consent of the affected individual, such information may be disclosed exclusively to authorized medical personnel who are equally bound by confidentiality obligations.

Offers personalized medical follow-up services for CRC personnel and their eligible dependents upon request.

Evaluates mental health requirements for individual cases and delivers immediate psychological assistance to colleagues in need of such support.

Ensures colleagues in Amateur and Maiduguri receive appropriate referrals to mental health services.

Professionals must have a thorough understanding of sexual violence policies and be prepared to assist colleagues who may experience such situations, including providing access to medical and mental health support.

Review and manage medical reimbursement claims for all employees and their eligible dependents in Amateur, while also offering assistance to the Maiduguri office.

Maintain strong communication and follow up on Memorandums of Understanding with referral hospitals located in Amateur.

Responsible for overseeing and executing the review and processing of medical bills and invoices to facilitate prompt payments and reimbursements, while also providing essential support to Amateur colleagues by handling health-related administrative duties and liaising with local healthcare providers.

Ensure the proper monitoring of cold chain items and maintain precise temperature control for all medical stock.

A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and applicable certifications are essential prerequisites for this role.

A medical degree from an accredited institution, specifically an MBBS, coupled with at least three years of hands-on clinical practice, is required.

Proficient command of the English language, both written and verbal, is essential.

Proven background in mental health, along with expertise in stress management techniques.

Proven expertise in medical evacuation and transportation operations is required.

Proficiency in tropical health and public health systems is required.

Skilled in utilizing Microsoft Office Suite and various internet-based applications.

Good rigour, method, and analytical skills.

You must have a valid working permit to work in Nigeria.
