To ensure the prompt, secure, and precise physical discharge of cargo, this position focuses on overseeing and facilitating efficient handling operations while maintaining strict adherence to safety and reporting standards.

The position entails a comprehensive range of duties encompassing strategic planning, operational oversight, and performance evaluation. Key tasks include developing and implementing departmental policies, managing cross-functional teams, and ensuring adherence to regulatory compliance. Additionally, the role requires conducting regular performance assessments, identifying areas for improvement, and fostering a collaborative work environment to drive organizational success. Proficiency in budget management, risk mitigation, and stakeholder communication is essential, along with the ability to analyze data and make data-driven decisions. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, exceptional problem-solving capabilities, and a proven track record of achieving measurable results.

Prior to and throughout cargo operations, it is essential to thoroughly examine and verify that all shipboard working gears, including hatches, cranes, and discharge mechanisms, are operating at full capacity and efficiency.

Ensure that stevedoring teams and dockworkers are promptly mobilized and positioned for immediate cargo discharge operations as soon as the vessel berths.

Monitor daily cargo discharge operations at the berth or jetty, ensuring efficient progress and delivering precise, real-time operational updates to the Head of Shipping.

Collaborate effectively with terminal operations teams at both GDNL and Leak facilities while fostering strong partnerships with internal Strategic Business Unit (SBS) logistics departments to streamline and enhance cargo evacuation processes.

Prepare and circulate meticulously accurate daily Vessel Situation Reports (Streps), ensuring thorough verification of data pertaining to shift performance metrics, tonnage throughput, and operational milestones.

Immediately upon operational challenges such as ship gear malfunctions, terminal delays, or weather-related disruptions, formal Letters of Protest (LOP) must be issued on behalf of the company to prevent unjustified demurrage claims.

Enforce compliance with corporate policies, standard shipping procedures, and maritime regulations to ensure the safe execution of onboard activities.

Seeking candidates with a demonstrated proficiency in the specified domain, exhibiting a strong command of essential skills and knowledge pertinent to the role. Applicants must meet the outlined qualifications, including relevant experience, technical expertise, and any necessary certifications or educational background. Proficient understanding of vessel cargo-handling operations, stevedoring procedures, terminal workflows, and onboard shipping processes is required.

Proficient in monitoring vessel discharge metrics and interpreting port agency documentation.

Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities are essential. Demonstrated proficiency in interacting with a variety of high-pressure teams, such as ship captains, multinational crews, Port authorities, and external partners, is required.

Demonstrates keen analytical thinking and the capacity for rapid, well-informed decision-making in high-pressure situations.

Demonstrated skill in identifying operational inefficiencies, managing unpredictable labor disputes among dockworkers, and submitting technical protests while maintaining composure under challenging circumstances.

A strong command of digital tools is required, particularly expertise in Microsoft Office Suite applications such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, to create well-organized and precise vessel situation reports and logs.

Absolute integrity, a proactive mindset, and outstanding organizational abilities are essential. Capable of demonstrating high resilience and maintaining peak physical fitness to perform comprehensive onboard tasks autonomously, with minimal oversight.

Proficiency in supervisory responsibilities and operational control aboard maritime vessels is required.

Capable of consistently following established corporate policies and standard operating procedures with unwavering commitment and precision.

Demonstrated proficiency in both quantitative and qualitative analytical methodologies is required.

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field.

A bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in disciplines such as Maritime Transport and Business Studies, Shipping/Ports Operations and Management, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a closely related field is required.
