Job Summary

The WASH Assistant will contribute to the planning, execution, and evaluation of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) initiatives across the state. This position offers practical exposure to community-driven WASH projects designed to enhance access to clean water, encourage proper hygiene behaviors, and improve sanitation conditions in underserved and conflict-affected populations.

The assistant will collaborate closely with the WASH Officer and Program Team to facilitate field operations, engage communities, gather and analyze data, track progress, and maintain thorough records. This role will provide hands-on experience with established development practices, with a focus on community-driven WASH initiatives and health education strategies.

The role encompasses a diverse array of duties, including the management of daily operations, oversight of team performance, and ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures. Key responsibilities involve coordinating project timelines, facilitating effective communication between departments, and driving strategic initiatives to achieve organizational objectives. Additionally, the position requires meticulous attention to detail in reporting, budget tracking, and resource allocation while maintaining compliance with industry regulations and standards. Collaborative efforts with stakeholders at all levels are essential to foster innovation and continuous improvement within the team.

Facilitate the execution of WASH initiatives within project communities, encompassing interventions related to water supply, sanitation, and hygiene promotion.

Provide support in mobilizing and engaging the community for WASH initiatives, training programs, and awareness campaigns.

Conduct field assessments to oversee the operation and maintenance of WASH infrastructure, including boreholes, latrines, and handwashing stations.

Support the implementation of hygiene promotion initiatives, such as community outreach programs and educational workshops in schools.

Assist in gathering data essential for establishing baselines, conducting ongoing monitoring, and evaluating the effectiveness of WASH interventions.

Document field activities, success stories, challenges, and lessons learned by preparing thorough and accurate documentation.

Assist in the distribution and monitoring of WASH supplies and hygiene kits as needed.

Ensure meticulous documentation of WASH initiatives and beneficiary details.

Collaborate effectively with community leaders, local authorities, and key stakeholders to ensure seamless alignment and coordination of efforts.

Seeking a candidate with a minimum of five years of relevant experience in the field, along with a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related discipline. Proficiency in industry-standard software and tools is essential, along with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. The ideal applicant will demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Prior leadership or project management experience is highly desirable, as is a track record of delivering measurable results. Familiarity with regulatory compliance and best practices within the industry is required.

A bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Environmental Health, Public Health, Water Resources Management, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or a closely related discipline is required.

Individuals should exhibit a clear commitment to WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), public health, or community development initiatives, showcasing relevant experience or academic grounding in these domains.

A background in hygiene promotion, sanitation, and water safety principles is beneficial.

Demonstrates enthusiasm for involvement in on-site initiatives and active collaboration with local stakeholders.

Proficient in gathering data, maintaining detailed records, and preparing comprehensive reports.

English fluency is essential, while proficiency in additional local languages may offer a strategic benefit.

Proficiency in essential computer applications, specifically Microsoft Word and Excel, is required.
