Job Summary

The WASH Assistant will assist in the design, execution, and evaluation of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) initiatives across the state. This position offers practical engagement in community-driven WASH projects focused on enhancing access to clean water, fostering hygiene behaviors, and improving sanitation conditions in underserved and conflict-impacted communities.

The assistant will collaborate closely with the WASH Officer and Program Team to facilitate field operations, engage communities, gather and analyze data, conduct monitoring, and maintain thorough records, all while acquiring hands-on experience with international development standards, such as community-led WASH initiatives and public health advocacy.

Oversee a range of critical operational duties to ensure seamless functionality and compliance with established standards. Develop, implement, and monitor policies, procedures, and systems to enhance efficiency and productivity. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align initiatives with organizational objectives and drive continuous improvement. Maintain accurate documentation and reporting to support data-driven decision-making and regulatory adherence. Identify opportunities for process optimization and cost reduction while upholding quality and performance benchmarks. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and innovation within the team to achieve strategic goals.

Assist in executing WASH initiatives within project communities, encompassing water supply solutions, sanitation infrastructure, and hygiene education efforts.

Support community mobilization and engagement efforts for WASH-related initiatives, training programs, and awareness campaigns.

Conduct field visits to oversee the assessment and maintenance of critical WASH infrastructure, including boreholes, latrines, and handwashing stations.

Support hygiene promotion initiatives through community outreach programs and school-based educational campaigns.

Assist in gathering data to establish baselines, monitor ongoing activities, and evaluate the effectiveness of WASH interventions.

Support the documentation of field activities, capturing success stories, lessons learned, and challenges encountered.

Assist in the distribution and monitoring of WASH supplies and hygiene kits, where relevant.

Ensure meticulous documentation of WASH initiatives and beneficiary details, maintaining comprehensive and precise records throughout all stages of implementation.

Collaborate effectively with community leaders, local authorities, and key stakeholders to ensure seamless alignment and coordination of efforts.

Seeking a candidate with a minimum of three years of relevant experience in the field, along with a bachelor’s degree or higher in a related discipline. Proficiency in industry-specific software and tools is required, along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. The ideal applicant will demonstrate excellent communication abilities and the capacity to work collaboratively in a team environment. Prior experience in project management or leadership roles is highly desirable. Must possess a keen attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

A bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Environmental Health, Public Health, Water Resources Management, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or a closely related discipline is required.

Individuals should exhibit a clear passion for WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), public health, or community development initiatives, as these areas form the core focus of this role.

A familiarity with hygiene promotion, sanitation, and water safety principles is beneficial.

Actively participates in on-site assignments and fosters collaborative relationships within the community.

Demonstrates proficiency in gathering data, maintaining meticulous records, and preparing comprehensive reports.

Effective English communication skills are essential; proficiency in local languages constitutes an additional benefit.

Proficiency in using Microsoft Word and Excel is required, along with fundamental computer skills.
