The Lead, Merchant KYC Support spearheads the operational and strategic implementation of Know Your Customer (KYC) initiatives throughout the organization. Responsibilities encompass directing a team of KYC Support Officers, overseeing merchant onboarding procedures, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards, and upholding the integrity of customer due diligence protocols.
The position demands a comprehensive grasp of KYC policies, risk evaluation methodologies, and regulatory compliance frameworks, coupled with the capacity to align diverse teams in sustaining a robust risk mitigation strategy and curbing financial crime vulnerabilities.

Deliver strategic guidance, mentorship, and day-to-day supervision to the KYC Support team, guaranteeing the prompt and precise fulfillment of onboarding and periodic review responsibilities.
Conduct thorough evaluations of client files and risk assessments that present significant risk, and elevate intricate cases along with associated recommendations to senior management for definitive authorization.
Responsible for enhancing and maintaining diligent oversight of due diligence workflows, document validation procedures, and risk classification frameworks to ensure ongoing effectiveness and compliance.
Execute periodic, trigger-based, and event-driven client reviews in a timely manner, ensuring strict adherence to all regulatory obligations.
Ensure the precise maintenance of all Know Your Customer (KYC) documentation and audit trails, guaranteeing their accuracy and completeness throughout the record keeping process.
Serve as the primary escalation point for internal stakeholders encountering KYC documentation or onboarding-related obstacles, providing timely and effective resolution to streamline processes.
Partner with Compliance, Risk Management, Data & Document Management, and Customer Success teams to ensure KYC support is fully integrated with overarching risk frameworks.
Monitor regulatory developments and any modifications to Know Your Customer (KYC) obligations, then propose revisions to internal protocols as needed.
Assist in creating and executing KYC-focused training programs for both the team and key cross-functional partners.
Compiling periodic performance and risk exposure analyses is essential to support managerial decision-making processes.
• Minimum of five years of hands-on experience in a full-cycle accounting environment, including month-end closings and financial statement preparation
• Active CPA license or equivalent certification required
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; advanced degree preferred
• Proficiency in GAAP and IFRS standards, along with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
• Experience with ERP systems and advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, LOOKUP, Power Query)
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to liaise with cross-functional teams and present financial insights effectively
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities while ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements
A bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Business Administration, or a relevant field is required for this role.
Minimum of four to six years of relevant professional experience in Know Your Customer (KYC) processes, client onboarding protocols, compliance frameworks, or risk management disciplines is required.
Seasoned professionals with a proven track record in leading or guiding teams within financial services or fintech organizations are encouraged to apply. Ideal candidates will have hands-on experience in team management or mentorship roles, specifically within dynamic financial or technology-driven environments.
Proficient in business account onboarding processes and thoroughly knowledgeable about documentation requirements for SMEs and corporate clients.
Proficiency in relevant regulatory frameworks, including Anti-Money Laundering (AML) standards, the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Know Your Customer (KYC) Guidelines, and Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Recommendations, is strongly advantageous.
Proficient in conducting thorough analysis, fostering clear communication, and adeptly managing relationships with stakeholders are essential.
