Job Summary
A well-established and expanding Microfinance Bank headquartered in Elite State is in need of a detail-oriented, compliance-focused, and credentialed finance specialist to assume the role of Account Officer (Financial Control & Regulatory Returns).
Reporting to the Head of Financial Control (HFC), the chosen candidate will be instrumental in safeguarding the accuracy of the bank’s financial records while ensuring full compliance with the regulatory reporting frameworks set by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). Additionally, the role will involve overseeing routine accounting tasks and maintaining operational efficiency in financial processes.
Oversee and execute a diverse range of critical duties encompassing strategic planning, operational execution, and team leadership to drive organizational success. Develop and implement policies, procedures, and best practices to enhance efficiency, productivity, and compliance across all departments. Collaborate closely with senior management to align business objectives with actionable initiatives, ensuring measurable outcomes and sustainable growth. Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess progress, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective measures as needed. Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement by empowering teams through clear communication, mentorship, and professional development opportunities. Ensure adherence to industry regulations, ethical standards, and company policies while maintaining a focus on risk management and corporate governance. Represent the organization in high-level meetings, negotiations, and stakeholder engagements to strengthen partnerships and uphold the company’s reputation.
Prepare, review, and submit statutory returns—including daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly filings—accurately and on time to regulatory bodies such as the Central Bank of Nigeria (via FINA or relevant platforms) and the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and other applicable authorities.
Maintain precise general ledger records, validate journal entries, and confirm adherence of all financial activities to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and applicable national accounting regulations.
Conduct regular and meticulous bank reconciliations, inter-branch account reconciliations, and balance sheet verifications to identify and address discrepancies in a timely manner.
Provide support for tax-related processes, including calculating, submitting, and paying all applicable statutory taxes—such as Withholding Tax (WHT), Value-Added Tax (VAT), and Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE)—to both state and federal tax authorities.
Provide budgetary support by collaborating with the Head of Financial Control to develop annual budgets, implement budgetary control mechanisms, and conduct variance analyses.
Maintain and update the fixed asset register for the bank, ensuring accurate tracking of depreciation and capital expenditures.
We are seeking a highly motivated professional who possesses a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as engineering, computer science, or mathematics, along with a minimum of five years of experience in a similar role. Proficiency in data analysis, project management, and exceptional communication skills are essential. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in developing strategic plans, implementing innovative solutions, and leading cross-functional teams to drive organizational success. Familiarity with industry-specific software and tools, as well as a commitment to continuous learning and professional development, are required. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, along with the capacity to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines, are also crucial for this position.
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field is required.
A minimum of two to four years of hands-on accounting or financial control experience in a regulated financial institution is required, with a preferred background in Microfinance Banks or Deposit Money Banks.
Proficiency in the CBN Revised Regulatory and Supervisory Guidelines for Microfinance Banks, IFRS standards, and financial return formats is required.
Professional certifications, such as partial or full completion of ICAN (ACA), ARCA, or CBN (ACID) qualifications, provide a significant competitive edge.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and experienced in utilizing modern Core Banking Applications (CBA) and regulatory reporting portals.
Required competencies include a robust sense of integrity, exceptional analytical aptitude, meticulous attention to detail, and the capacity to perform effectively under tight deadlines dictated by regulatory mandates.
