Job Summary
A reputable and expanding Microfinance Bank located in Elite State is in search of a detail-oriented, compliance-focused, and highly qualified financial expert to assume the role of Account Officer, specializing in Financial Control and Regulatory Returns.
Reporting to the Head of Financial Control, the incumbent will uphold the accuracy and reliability of the bank’s financial records while ensuring full compliance with Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and FDIC regulatory reporting standards. Additionally, the role entails overseeing daily accounting activities to maintain operational efficiency and regulatory alignment.
Oversee a range of critical duties encompassing team leadership, project execution, and operational efficiency to drive organizational success. Collaborate with cross-functional departments to align objectives, streamline workflows, and implement strategic initiatives. Monitor performance metrics, identify areas for improvement, and recommend data-driven solutions to enhance productivity and quality. Ensure compliance with industry regulations, internal policies, and best practices while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous development. Liaise with stakeholders to gather requirements, address concerns, and deliver measurable results in alignment with business goals.
You will be responsible for preparing, reviewing, and submitting daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly statutory returns to the Central Bank of Nigeria (via FINA or relevant platforms), the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), and other applicable regulatory authorities with precision and timeliness.
Maintain precise general ledger records, validate transaction postings, and ensure all financial activities adhere to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) as well as national accounting regulations.
Perform detailed and systematic reconciliations, including bank accounts, inter-branch transactions, and balance sheet accounts, to identify and correct discrepancies in a timely manner.
Responsibilities include supporting the preparation, submission, and payment of all applicable statutory taxes—such as Withholding Tax (WHT), Value-Added Tax (VAT), and Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE)—to both state and federal tax authorities.
Budgetary Support: Provide assistance to the Head of Financial Control by collaborating on the preparation of annual budgets, implementing budgetary control procedures, and conducting variance analyses.
Maintain and update the bank’s fixed asset register with precision, ensuring accurate tracking of depreciation and capital expenditures.
Qualifications & Requirements
A relevant qualification for this role includes at least a Bachelor’s degree or a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a closely related field.
Seeking candidates with 2–4 years of hands-on accounting or financial control experience, ideally within a regulated financial institution such as a Microfinance Bank or Deposit Money Bank.
A strong grasp of the CBN Revised Regulatory and Supervisory Guidelines for Microfinance Banks, alongside IFRS standards and financial return formats, is essential.
Professional certifications, including mid-stage progress or full qualification in examinations such as ICAN (ACA), ARCA, or CBN (ACID), will be considered a significant advantage.
High proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required, coupled with practical experience utilizing contemporary Core Banking Applications (CBA) and regulatory reporting portals.
