Position Summary
This position is tasked with advancing Visa’s regulatory and policy goals by cultivating strategic partnerships with pivotal government officials, policymakers, public figures, and regulators across anglophone West Africa, including Nigeria, Ghana, The Gambia, Sierra Leone, and Liberia.
Key responsibilities encompass overseeing project execution from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards. Devising and implementing a West African Government Affairs strategy involves establishing clear objectives, structured timelines, and actionable initiatives that align with Visa’s overarching global policy framework and regional priorities.
Oversee operational functions encompassing budget management, reporting, and the punctual production of high-quality position papers, policy briefs, analyses, and engagement plans.
Develop and implement policy strategies aligned with organizational objectives while offering strategic direction to foster market expansion and drive innovation.
Monitor and shape legislation, regulation, and policy developments to protect and advance Visa’s strategic interests, advocating for advantageous outcomes at all levels.
Develop and maintain strong partnerships with government entities, industry associations, non-governmental organizations, and multilateral institutions. Serve as Visa’s representative in key strategic forums to influence the development of payment policies.
To enhance advocacy efforts, stakeholder engagement, and regulatory oversight, you will establish and uphold industry-leading standards while optimizing processes to maximize both efficiency and effectiveness.

Job Scope
The position reports directly to the Senior Director and Head of Government Affairs for Western and Central Africa.
Collaborates effectively with colleagues across country, CEMEA hub-level, and global levels, including members from Country Management, Corporate Communications, Legal, Marketing, Strategy, Risk Management, Social Impact, and Products teams.
Works collaboratively with global Government Affairs colleagues to establish and enhance industry-leading practices.
Serves as a primary resource on policy matters, regulatory challenges, and governmental affairs for collaborative business teams spanning multiple divisions.
The position requires regular travel throughout English-speaking regions of West Africa.
This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, with the specific in-office requirements to be determined in consultation with your Hiring Manager.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is required, along with a minimum of five years of experience in software development. Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or C++ is essential. Candidates should possess strong problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills, and the capacity to collaborate effectively within a team. Additionally, experience with Agile methodologies and software development best practices is highly desirable.

A minimum of ten years of professional experience is required, coupled with a Bachelor’s degree, or at least seven years with an advanced degree (such as a Master’s, MBA, JD, or MD), or three years with a PhD.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++. Experience with software development methodologies like Agile or Scrum. Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) and DevOps practices. Knowledge of databases (SQL/NoSQL) and data structures. Prior experience in a software development role is a plus. Understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices. Seeking candidates with a minimum of twelve years of pertinent professional background, coupled with a Bachelor’s degree; nine or more years of experience is preferred if supplemented by an advanced degree, or five or more years is acceptable if supported by a PhD.
A bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in Public Policy, International Relations, Law, or a closely related discipline is required.
A minimum of ten to twelve years of professional experience in government relations, regulatory affairs, or public policy is required.
