Job Summary
Our client is actively expanding, creating an urgent need for an Internal Control/Compliance Officer who is highly motivated and possesses strong communication skills. This position requires a minimum of six years of relevant experience.
The successful applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma in Banking, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline, alongside professional certification such as MCP, ICAN, or ARCA.
Professionals with prior experience in a comparable role within a Microfinance Bank, coupled with a strong understanding of MCB Software, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) regulations, and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) laws, will be given preference.
This role is pivotal in evaluating policies and establishing robust internal control frameworks within the Bank.
Key Functions of the Position
Daily verification of all bank transactions is conducted to ensure alignment between system records and actual balances. This entails meticulously reviewing financial data to confirm its accuracy and consistency. By reconciling discrepancies promptly, the role helps maintain the integrity of financial records and supports informed decision-making.
Conduct comprehensive investigations in accordance with the audit checklist and supervisory guidance to ensure the bank attains optimal outcomes.
This role involves designing, implementing, and overseeing the internal controls’ framework, which encompasses developing an audit manual, formulating an audit plan, coordinating schedules, delegating tasks, and accurately assessing resource requirements.
Perform risk evaluations for various departments and functional areas, ensuring adherence to established timelines.
Perform audit testing to evaluate areas of potential risk and determine reportable issues.
Perform all requested assessments and assignments as assigned, ensuring timely and accurate completion in accordance with established guidelines and priorities.
Actively engages in the formulation and refinement of Internal Control policies, guaranteeing their alignment with the Bank’s evolving operational needs.
To establish and execute suitable operational procedures that ensure adherence to the Bank’s established policies.
Prepare and submit regular reports to the Head of Internal Control to enhance operational performance.
Evaluate and advise on strategies to mitigate risks arising from inadequate internal controls.
Conduct thorough assessments to pinpoint financial and administrative strengths and areas needing improvement, then establish and implement industry-leading best practices.
Experienced professionals may be tasked with conducting training sessions to educate other staff members on Internal Controls, ensuring a thorough understanding and adherence to established procedures.
Prepare and submit monthly returns to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Compile and organize all required financial records and documentation in preparation for audits by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).
