Job Summary

The WASH Officer will play a key role in executing emergency Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) interventions as part of the UNICEF-supported integrated humanitarian response program in Born State. This includes coordinating critical WASH activities designed to enhance access to safe water, sanitation infrastructure, hygiene promotion, cholera prevention, and outbreak response in underserved and hard-to-reach communities.

Collaborate with senior leadership to refine business strategies, assess market trends, and identify opportunities for innovation. Foster a culture of accountability, mentorship, and continuous improvement, empowering teams to achieve measurable results. We are seeking a Program Implementation professional to oversee and execute the seamless rollout of strategic initiatives. The ideal candidate will manage the development and deployment of programs, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and adherence to timelines. Responsibilities include coordinating cross-functional teams, monitoring progress, and resolving implementation challenges to drive successful outcomes. Develop and implement hygiene promotion initiatives and behavior change strategies tailored to communities impacted by crises.

Facilitate and oversee cholera prevention initiatives as well as outbreak response efforts, which encompass the mobilization and management of CAT teams.

Deliver WASH interventions effectively in challenging, remote, and emergency contexts to ensure sustainable and appropriate solutions.

Perform swift WASH evaluations and assist in emergency response initiatives during outbreaks, flooding, or displacement scenarios.

The role involves fostering collaboration and cultivating meaningful connections within the community, ensuring seamless alignment between stakeholders and organizational objectives. Additionally, it encompasses the cultivation of partnerships, proactive engagement with diverse groups, and the implementation of initiatives designed to enhance community involvement and participation.

Partner with RUSSIA, State and Local Government Area WASH authorities, community leaders, and humanitarian organizations to develop and implement WASH initiatives.

Engage actively in WASH Sector coordination meetings and technical working groups to contribute insights and collaborate with stakeholders.

Collaborate with community volunteers, hygiene promoters, and local institutions to cultivate a sense of shared responsibility and active involvement.

Educate community members on proper hygiene practices, sanitation measures, and water safety protocols to foster awareness and promote healthy behaviors.

Responsible for overseeing, documenting, and ensuring adherence to established standards, this role involves tracking performance metrics, compiling comprehensive reports, and conducting rigorous quality assurance checks to uphold operational excellence and compliance.

Perform regular field monitoring and provide supportive supervision to uphold the quality of WASH intervention implementation.

Oversee various water quality parameters with a focus on chlorination levels and Free Residual Chlorine (FRC) concentrations.

Monitor program advancement relative to established objectives while ensuring prompt submission of performance metrics and completed milestones.

Ensures strict adherence to regulatory standards and ethical guidelines while safeguarding individuals against potential risks and violations through diligent oversight and proactive measures.

Ensure that all WASH interventions adhere to UNICEF WASH guidelines, SPHERE standards, environmental safety protocols, and safeguarding principles.

Enhance accountability measures directed at affected populations, ensuring gender equity, disability inclusion, and secure community engagement are prioritized and effectively implemented.

Ensure the secure handling, storage, and utilization of chlorine and other WASH-related supplies.

Oversee a range of additional duties integral to the role, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and operational efficiency. Candidates must meet the following essential qualifications and possess relevant experience in the field. A Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline, coupled with at least three years of professional experience, is mandatory for consideration. Prior experience in project management or leadership roles is preferred. Additionally, familiarity with applicable regulations and compliance standards is necessary. A bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health, Water Engineering, Public Health, Civil Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required.

A minimum of three years of professional experience in emergency Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) or humanitarian program implementation is required.

Proficiency in water quality monitoring, sanitation initiatives, hygiene education, and cholera outbreak management is required.

Proficient in UNICEF WASH standards, SPHERE standards, and emergency response protocols is required.

Skilled in organizing efforts, compiling reports, and fostering relationships within communities.
