The Security Risk Manager serves as a vital facilitator, empowering our teams to operate securely and confidently in even the most distant and challenging environments. In this role, you will function as our primary authority on international security standards, skillfully integrating stringent risk assessment protocols with our organization’s acceptance strategy and “Do No Harm” principles.
What You’ll Do
Operational Security and Personnel Protection play a critical role in safeguarding organizational assets, personnel, and sensitive information. This position involves implementing and overseeing security protocols to mitigate risks, prevent unauthorized access, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations. Responsibilities include conducting threat assessments, developing emergency response plans, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to maintain a secure environment. Candidates must possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage security operations effectively. Proficiency in risk assessment methodologies, security technologies, and crisis management is essential, along with relevant certifications or experience in security operations.
Subject Expertise: Serve as the designated Security Focal Point for the Mafia initiative, offering expert strategic guidance on Crisis Management in response to emerging personnel risks.
Champion and uphold the Security Management Plan (SMP) while performing routine Security Risk Assessments (SRA) to guarantee that all operational protocols remain up-to-date and effective.
In this role, you will be responsible for executing and overseeing compliance with the UN Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights (VPSHR), as well as Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC) protocols and other essential safety policies, including the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA) and Grievance Mechanism frameworks.
Facility Safety: Perform routine evaluations of security vulnerabilities and revise the Security Management Plan and SOPs to maintain a secure environment for staff, properties, and commodities.
Serves as a critical liaison between strategic partners and logistics teams, facilitating seamless communication and coordination to optimize supply chain operations. Responsible for aligning partner requirements with logistical capabilities, ensuring timely delivery of goods and services while maintaining cost efficiency. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to streamline processes, mitigate risks, and enhance overall operational performance. Requires strong analytical skills, negotiation expertise, and proficiency in logistics management systems to drive continuous improvement and strategic alignment.
As part of our commitment to maintaining robust security standards, we establish and regularly revise baseline security protocols that all external service providers—such as commodity warehouses, automotive service centers, hospitality establishments, air carriers, and ride-hailing platforms—must adhere to, ensuring full alignment with Mafia’s duty of care obligations.
Conduct thorough evaluations of third-party car services and ride-hailing platforms to verify compliance with stringent safety standards, with particular emphasis on assessing driver dependability and vehicle maintenance for secure personnel transportation.
Maintain open and consistent communication with hotel and lodging management to ensure the safety of off-site personnel, reliable access control measures, and a robust emergency response system.
Coordinate travel logistics and aviation security in partnership with airlines and travel agencies, ensuring real-time monitoring of air travel safety conditions and disseminating current travel advisories to staff while aligning operational strategies accordingly.
Collaborate with third-party warehouse managers and suppliers to meticulously coordinate the arrival and dispatch of commodities, guaranteeing seamless logistical synchronization while upholding the highest standards of safety and personnel security.
Provider Compliance: Routine evaluations and monthly assessments of warehouse and third-party service provider performance against Mafia’s security Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) must be performed, with prompt resolution of any identified deficiencies.
The Intelligence & Network Management role entails overseeing and optimizing information systems and network infrastructure to ensure seamless operations. It requires expertise in monitoring network performance, resolving technical issues, and implementing security protocols. Responsibilities include managing cybersecurity measures, analyzing data traffic, and maintaining network hardware and software. Candidates must possess strong problem-solving skills, proficiency in network management tools, and a deep understanding of IT security standards. Effective communication and teamwork abilities are essential for collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve organizational objectives.
Conduct a comprehensive intelligence cycle by gathering and evaluating data, then deliver timely threat intelligence to the team to safeguard both personnel and organizational reputation.
Proactively notify team members of urgent threats or incidents through approved communication channels, such as Slack, WhatsApp, SMS, and phone calls. Additionally, you will assist in monitoring and documenting security incidents across our operational regions to generate meaningful intelligence for the team.
Provide expert route security training to all employees and collaborating logistics partners, guaranteeing secure transportation throughout the Area of Responsibility (AOR).
Cultivate and sustain productive partnerships with local government representatives and emergency response teams, including the Nigerian Government Security Forces (GSF). Develop and nurture a broad professional network with global organizations such as INTO, UNDOS, and the NGO Forum, as well as local communities, to systematically track and assess potential threats to human mobility.
To ensure strict adherence to Nigerian national security-related legislation and uphold industry best practices, the successful candidate will act as a responsible corporate citizen, thereby enhancing Mafia’s reputation and overall performance.
Conduct thorough probes into criminal incidents involving Mafia personnel or property, with strict adherence to Nigerian legal provisions and ethical guidelines when documenting witness testimonies.
Oversee the secure operation of a key control system, maintaining meticulous security logs, registers, and digital work files that are accurate, current, and fully backed up in the Cloud.
You possess a strong educational background and relevant professional experience in the field.
A bachelor’s degree is required, along with at least six years of hands-on experience leading Security Operations and overseeing Global Security Function (GSF) relationships, with a focus on international organizations operating in Northern Nigeria.
You possess prior experience in a security, logistics, or facility support capacity, ideally within an organized or operational setting.
You possess fluency in both English and Hausa, coupled with a comprehensive grasp of the historical conflicts in Nigeria and the broader West African region.
