Responsibilities include the safe operation, setup, changeover, and first-line (team) maintenance of the designated PET-bottle labelled machine (e.g., SALMI, SIDE, or SIDE Rollquattro), ensuring accurate and secure label application to meet branding and regulatory requirements. The role involves maintaining label quality, machine throughput, and operational availability, documenting machine events as required, and upholding GMP/GHK and safety standards in the assigned work area.

Job Details

Performs pre-operation inspections, sets up and initiates the labelled—including the dryer, indeed, label reels, vacuum drum, glue and cutter units—and coordinates the start-up timing according to the production schedule following each run.

Operates the labelling machine within standard control parameters, meticulously overseeing the dispensing, cutting, gluing, and application of labels to guarantee precise, secure, and wrinkle-free adhesion, as well as the correct positioning of eye-marks and labels.

Installs, configures, and adjusts label-film reels, ensuring efficient preparation and seamless execution of changeovers to reduce downtime effectively.

Reports any observed machine deviations or breakdowns to the technical team and follows up to ensure timely and lasting resolution; actively works to minimize all forms of waste, including label film, glue, and rejected bottles, within the work area.

Ensures strict adherence to GMP/GHK standards throughout each shift, completes area handovers with full compliance, and conducts GMP audits and Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAP’s) in accordance with the weekly schedule.

Recognizes the financial consequences of losses related to label film, adhesive, and rejected bottles on overall product and plant profitability while prioritizing a culture of quality excellence.

Ensures adherence to strict uniform and personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols by maintaining a clean uniform and wearing 100% compliant PPE at all times while on the production floor; removes all jewelry prior to entering designated work areas.

Maintains strict adherence to no eating or drinking policies on production lines and ensures immediate cleaning of the labelling station and conveyors throughout each shift.

Documents any near-misses or non-conformances observed during their shift and collaborates with designated personnel to ensure proper resolution.

Ensures that all label quality-control parameters remain within specified targets throughout each shift, including proper label alignment and positioning, optimal adhesion, a wrinkle- and bubble-free finish, accurate eye-mark detection, and correct label and closure application per SKU. Additionally, conducts thorough inspections and sorting of packaging materials prior to their use.

Responsible for affixing labels to film, adhesive, and other packaging materials directly on the production floor, this role involves meticulous staging of supplies and strict oversight of material usage and reconciliation processes.

Ensures the timely availability of products and promptly communicates any potential delays that could disrupt production to the Shift Team Leader.

Ensures full compliance with SBC, ISO 9001 quality management standards, other applicable management systems, and PI standards, while also meeting all statutory, regulatory, safety, and environmental obligations.

Notifies the Shift Team Leader of any required working tools and maintains stringent oversight to ensure the proper management and secure storage of tools and changeover/format components, such as star-wheels and centering bells.

Non-conformities identified during production are escalated immediately in accordance with the established escalation matrix.

Accurately records all machine-related occurrences, including stops, alarms, changeovers, and real changes, in the production log book and fulfills all necessary shop-floor documentation requirements. Additionally, facilitates a structured shift handover process.

Ensures continuous presence of all machine guarding and safety interlocks throughout production operations; serves as a proactive safety advocate, mitigating risks such as entanglement, crushing, and repetitive-strain injuries for both themselves and the equipment.

Leads the team or first-line maintenance efforts, ensuring their efficiency and effectiveness within the designated work area.

Builds and sustains collaborative partnerships with internal teams and key stakeholders to ensure alignment and effective communication across the organization.

Develops and strengthens collaborative partnerships with Engineering, Quality Assurance, Production Planning, and applicable regulatory bodies or their delegates; collaborates closely with filling and downstream packaging teams to ensure seamless line synchronization.

Drives ongoing enhancements to the labelled by analyzing global and industry benchmarks, as well as employee feedback, to elevate label quality and optimize machine efficiency (ONE).

Acquires and applies industry-leading methodologies from external sources while contributing personal expertise to enhance practices within the SBC.

Identifies and proposes innovative solutions to enhance operational efficiency by leveraging automation and technological advancements within the organization.

Analytical and organizational skills are essential for this position, with a minimum of three years of relevant experience required. Candidates must possess strong communication abilities, both written and verbal, to effectively engage with stakeholders. Proficiency in industry-specific software and tools is mandatory, along with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. A bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred, though equivalent professional experience may be considered. Attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving are critical for success in this role.

A qualification requirement includes obtaining an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Food Science/Technology, Engineering, or General Sciences.

A minimum of one to three years of practical operational and maintenance experience within the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector is required.

Proficiency in bottling and labeling processes, as well as expertise in PET packaging, is essential.

Proficiency in assessing the financial consequences of decisions, including material losses, rejects, and downtime, is essential.

Skilled at cultivating and utilizing professional connections to enhance outcomes.

Open to innovative ideas and eager to explore new approaches and process enhancements.

Experienced in operating roll-fed labelled, specifically SALMI, SIDE, and SIDE Rollquattro models, within PET production lines.

Proven expertise in contemporary WC manufacturing processes and techniques is required.

Good understanding of HQSE modalities and codes.

A solid grasp of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Global Harmonization Guidelines (GHK) is essential for immediate application in the production line environment.

Effective verbal communication, negotiation abilities, and strong interpersonal skills are essential.
