Job Summary:

We seek a seasoned and proactive Legal Officer to deliver expert legal counsel, administer contracts, facilitate regulatory compliance, supervise litigation matters, and uphold corporate governance standards. The preferred applicant will demonstrate robust commercial law proficiency, exceptional contract drafting capabilities, and prior experience in the financial services industry.

Oversee the execution of core duties including strategic planning, team leadership, and operational oversight to ensure organizational objectives are met efficiently. Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to drive project success and foster a culture of accountability and innovation. Monitor key performance indicators to assess progress and identify opportunities for improvement. Prepare comprehensive reports to communicate outcomes and recommendations to stakeholders. Ensure compliance with industry regulations and internal policies while maintaining high standards of quality and service delivery.

Deliver strategic legal guidance and assistance to business units across diverse legal and regulatory domains.

Draft, prepare, and finalize a variety of legal documents, such as loan agreements, assignment deeds, demand letters, contracts, legal opinions, and memoranda, while also engaging in thorough review and negotiation processes to ensure alignment with relevant laws and client objectives.

Oversee the administration of contracts and ensure the meticulous organization of legal documents and agreements within a structured database.

Oversee litigation matters by coordinating and monitoring progress, serving as the primary liaison with external counsel, and ensuring meticulous maintenance of litigation records.

Assist in managing dispute resolution procedures and facilitate the resolution of customer complaints that have potential legal consequences.

Maintain adherence to all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards to ensure full compliance.

Facilitate corporate governance initiatives by preparing and managing board documentation, maintaining accurate meeting minutes, and ensuring statutory records are current and compliant.

Perform comprehensive legal research and deliver data-driven analytical insights to inform strategic business decisions.

Track regulatory changes and provide strategic guidance to leadership on new legal and compliance obligations as they arise.

Deliver specialized training sessions and compliance workshops designed to enhance legal awareness among employees.

Participate in pertinent meetings and generate necessary legal reports and documentation upon request.

Execute various legal and administrative tasks as delegated by management, ensuring all responsibilities are handled with precision and professionalism.

Seeking candidates with a minimum of three years of experience in a related field, proficiency in project management software, and a strong background in data analysis. Must possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams. A bachelor’s degree in business administration, computer science, or a related discipline is required, along with relevant certifications considered advantageous. Familiarity with agile methodologies and prior experience in a leadership role are highly preferred.

A recognized institution must grant a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree.

Must possess a valid practicing license and be enrolled on the Nigerian Bar.

A minimum of six years of post-qualification experience gained within a commercial law firm or an in-house corporate legal department is required.

Proficiency in financial services, fintech, lending, microfinance, or banking industries is strongly favored.

Proficient in commercial law, contract management, litigation processes, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance, with a comprehensive understanding of each area.

Proficiency in consumer lending or credit operations represents an additional benefit to this role.

Proficient in legal drafting, negotiation, analytical reasoning, and communication with a high degree of accuracy and clarity.

Demonstrates exceptional precision, maintains a high standard of professional conduct, and exercises sound, well-reasoned judgment in all aspects of the role.
