Job Summary

We are in search of a seasoned and proficient Legal Officer to deliver expert legal guidance and assistance throughout our extensive range of operations.

The preferred applicant should demonstrate at least five years of focused expertise in the real estate and construction sectors, fintech, hospitality, corporate governance, and REIT investments.

In this critical position, your responsibilities will include maintaining legal adherence, overseeing a diverse portfolio of intricate contracts, addressing conflicts, and safeguarding the organization’s assets.

This role presents an exceptional chance to contribute to significant, complex projects while working alongside a vibrant, interdisciplinary team.

Oversee and execute a diverse range of critical duties, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and operational standards. This includes driving project milestones, fostering cross-functional collaboration, and maintaining rigorous compliance with established protocols. The role demands meticulous attention to detail, proactive problem-solving, and the ability to adapt swiftly to evolving priorities while delivering measurable results. Additionally, the position requires effective stakeholder engagement, clear communication of progress, and adherence to deadlines to sustain productivity and team cohesion.

Offer specialized legal counsel and strategic direction to senior leaders and cross-functional teams such as Sales, Marketing, Business Development, HR/Admin, Finance/Accounts, and Project Teams.

We are responsible for preparing, evaluating, and negotiating a wide variety of legal documents, such as real estate transaction agreements, construction contracts, land acquisition deeds, and corporate governance policies.

Perform comprehensive legal research and analysis to verify adherence to all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards governing real estate, construction, hospitality, fintech, and investment sectors.

Conduct thorough evaluations to uncover legal risks, followed by comprehensive impact assessments, and implement targeted measures to reduce exposure. Formulate and execute forward-thinking strategies to preempt and address emerging challenges before they escalate.

Oversee all litigation and dispute resolution initiatives while collaborating seamlessly with external legal counsel and representing the company in negotiations and settlements.

You will play a key role in shaping, executing, and refining the organization’s legal policies, procedures, and recommended practices to ensure they remain effective and aligned with industry standards.

To maintain organizational compliance and gain a competitive edge, monitor legislative and statutory updates as well as emerging industry trends continuously.

Must submit a completed application form, provide a resume, and attach two letters of recommendation; must also possess a master’s degree in a relevant field or five years of relevant work experience. Additionally, candidates should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational abilities, and proficiency in standard office software.

A Juries Doctor (J.D.) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from a recognized accredited institution is required. Possession of a Master’s degree or relevant professional certifications is highly advantageous.

A minimum of five years of relevant experience as a Legal Officer or in an equivalent capacity, supported by a strong history of achievements in the real estate and construction industry, is required.

Requires in-depth expertise in Nigerian real estate law, construction regulations, land acquisition processes, and applicable commercial legislation.

Proficient in legal drafting, analytical reasoning, problem-solving, and negotiation, with a demonstrated ability to apply these skills effectively in complex legal environments.

Demonstrated capability to operate independently, prioritize tasks effectively, and consistently deliver results within tight timelines in a high-pressure corporate setting.

Exceptional proficiency in both oral and written communication, coupled with a rigorous focus on precision and accuracy.

Proven ability to conduct comprehensive legal research and effectively utilize a range of legal databases and software solutions.
