Job Summary
A reputable Microfinance Bank headquartered in Elite State is currently in search of an adept, meticulously organized, and suitably qualified candidate to fill the combined position of Legal and Administrative Officer.
Reporting to the Managing Director/CEO, the selected individual will be responsible for overseeing the bank’s legal matters, administering human resources, and managing day-to-day office functions. The preferred candidate will enforce adherence to corporate governance, statutory legal requirements, and labor legislation, while cultivating a productive workplace atmosphere.
Oversee and execute critical duties encompassing the planning, coordination, and implementation of strategic initiatives to drive organizational success, ensuring alignment with established objectives and operational standards. Develop and maintain robust project timelines, allocate resources efficiently, and monitor progress to guarantee timely and high-quality deliverables. Facilitate cross-functional collaboration, fostering clear communication channels and resolving interdepartmental challenges to enhance productivity. Conduct thorough performance evaluations, provide actionable feedback, and mentor team members to cultivate a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth. Ensure compliance with industry regulations, internal policies, and ethical guidelines while mitigating risks and addressing operational inefficiencies. Serve as a key liaison with stakeholders, presenting reports, negotiating terms, and securing approvals to advance organizational goals.
The Legal Affairs & Corporate Governance team ensures adherence to legal standards, regulatory compliance, and ethical business practices while overseeing corporate governance frameworks to safeguard organizational integrity and stakeholder interests. This role involves providing strategic legal guidance, managing risk exposure, and maintaining robust governance policies to support executive decision-making and mitigate legal exposure. Responsibilities include drafting and reviewing contracts, negotiating agreements, and advising leadership on compliance matters, as well as ensuring alignment with applicable laws and industry regulations. Additionally, the function monitors corporate governance best practices, facilitates board and committee activities, and implements policies to enhance transparency and accountability across the organization.
Prepare, evaluate, and finalize legal documents, including service level agreements (SLAs), lease agreements, and loan security documentation, while also engaging in negotiations to secure favorable terms.
Offer strategic legal guidance to leadership regarding regulatory adherence, operational concerns, and initiatives to recover credit, ensuring decisions are both informed and timely.
Engage proactively with external legal representatives to manage litigation matters, debt recovery initiatives, and the enforcement of perfected security assets.
Ensure adherence to the Corporate Governance Guidelines issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and compliance with all corporate filing obligations to the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
Human Resource Management involves overseeing and optimizing an organization’s workforce to align with its strategic objectives. This encompasses talent acquisition, employee development, performance management, and ensuring compliance with labor laws and company policies. HR professionals are responsible for fostering a positive workplace culture, managing employee relations, and implementing initiatives that enhance engagement and retention. Additionally, they handle compensation and benefits administration, workforce planning, and conflict resolution to promote organizational efficiency and employee well-being.
Responsible for managing the full employee lifecycle, from recruitment coordination and seamless onboarding to facilitating performance evaluations and overseeing offboarding procedures.
Oversee the organization, security, and current status of all staff files and personnel records, ensuring strict confidentiality and accuracy throughout all documentation.
Oversee employee relations, address workplace grievances, and ensure adherence to HR policies in line with the Nigerian Labour Act.
Track employee attendance and leave schedules while organizing training and development programs to enhance workforce capabilities.
Professional Administration Duties Include: Managing office operations, handling correspondence, maintaining records, coordinating schedules, and ensuring compliance with company policies. Additionally, you will assist with meeting arrangements, prepare reports, and support executive staff as needed. Strong organizational skills are essential, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and exceptional attention to detail. Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities are required to thrive in this role.
Oversee the daily operations of the bank’s corporate office, maintaining a clean, secure, and efficient work environment.
Responsibilities include managing the acquisition of office supplies, overseeing inventory levels, and ensuring the upkeep of facilities.
Oversee a team of support personnel, comprising security staff, drivers, and cleaning personnel.
Oversee vendor agreements and facilitate the prompt renewal of institutional insurance policies and operational licenses.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is required for consideration. A minimum of five years of experience in software development, with a proven track record in leading technical projects, is essential. Proficiency in multiple programming languages and frameworks is mandatory. Strong problem-solving abilities and excellent communication skills are critical for collaboration with cross-functional teams. Knowledge of agile methodologies and experience with cloud computing platforms are advantageous.
A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree and admission to the Nigerian Bar (B. L) are essential prerequisites for this role. Additionally, possessing professional certifications in Human Resource Management—such as CPM or SHRM—or in Administration would significantly enhance your candidacy.
Seeking candidates with 3 to 5 years of post-call experience, including a minimum of 2 years specializing in legal advisory, corporate governance, or human resources administration—preferably within a financial institution or a formally structured corporate setting.
A strong understanding of Nigerian banking laws, regulatory frameworks set by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) for microfinance banks, corporate laws, and labor regulations is required.
Exceptional drafting and negotiation abilities, strong organizational proficiency, and outstanding emotional intelligence are essential, along with the highest standards of discretion and confidentiality.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite—including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint—as well as legal research tools is required.
