Job Summary

A reputable Microfinance Bank located in Elite State is currently seeking a highly skilled, detail-oriented, and qualified individual to fill the combined position of Legal and Administrative Officer. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational abilities, exceptional versatility, and the necessary expertise to excel in both legal and administrative functions.

Reporting to the Managing Director/CEO, the chosen individual will be responsible for managing the bank’s legal affairs, supervising human resource administration, and overseeing general office operations. The preferred candidate will uphold rigorous adherence to corporate governance standards, statutory legal requirements, and labor laws while cultivating an effective and productive workplace environment.

Oversee a wide range of critical tasks, including the management of daily operations to ensure seamless workflows, the development and implementation of strategic initiatives to drive organizational growth, and the supervision of cross-functional teams to foster collaboration and achieve key performance targets. Additionally, monitor and evaluate departmental performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective measures as needed. Serve as a primary liaison between executive leadership and operational staff, ensuring clear communication of goals, policies, and expectations while aligning team efforts with broader company objectives. Maintain a strong focus on efficiency, accountability, and adherence to compliance standards to uphold organizational integrity and operational excellence.

Legal Affairs and Corporate Governance responsibilities encompass ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, managing corporate governance frameworks, overseeing legal documentation, and mitigating organizational risks. This role typically requires a Juries Doctor (J.D.) degree, active membership in a relevant bar association, and a minimum of five years of experience in legal practice, preferably within corporate or in-house legal environments. Key competencies include strong analytical and negotiation skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to interpret complex legal provisions. The position also demands proficiency in corporate governance best practices, risk management strategies, and an understanding of regulatory frameworks.

Draft, prepare, and finalize legal documents, including service level agreements (SLAs), lease agreements, and loan security documentation, while also conducting thorough reviews and engaging in negotiations to ensure compliance and mutual benefit.

Deliver strategic and prompt legal guidance to leadership regarding regulatory adherence, operational strategies, and debt recovery initiatives.

Collaborate with external legal counsel to manage litigation matters, debt recovery proceedings, and the enforcement of perfected security assets.

Ensure strict adherence to the Corporate Governance Guidelines issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as well as compliance with all corporate filing obligations to the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).

Human capital management encompasses the strategic oversight of an organization’s workforce, focusing on recruitment, professional development, performance evaluation, and employee relations to align with organizational goals. This role demands proficiency in talent acquisition, workforce planning, compensation and benefits administration, and adherence to labor laws and regulations. Responsibilities include fostering a positive workplace culture, mediating conflicts, ensuring compliance with employment standards, and implementing policies that enhance employee engagement and retention. Candidates should possess strong interpersonal skills, a deep understanding of HR best practices, and the ability to manage sensitive information with discretion.

Responsible for managing the entire employee lifecycle, encompassing recruitment coordination, onboarding facilitation, performance evaluation assistance, and offboarding procedures.

Ensure all staff files and personnel records are kept meticulously accurate, strictly confidential, and consistently updated.

Oversee employee relations, address workplace grievances, and apply HR policies in accordance with the Nigerian Labour Act.

Track employee attendance and manage leave schedules while organizing training and development programs.

Perform a range of general administrative duties to support office operations, including managing correspondence, maintaining records, coordinating schedules, and providing assistance to staff as needed.

Oversee the daily functions of the bank’s corporate office to maintain a well-organized, secure, and efficient work environment.

Responsible for managing the acquisition of office supplies, maintaining accurate inventory records, and ensuring the upkeep of facilities.

Oversee a team of support personnel, such as security officers, transportation staff, and janitorial employees.

Oversee vendor agreements and guarantee the prompt renewal of institutional insurance policies and operating licenses.

Seeking a candidate with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, along with a minimum of three years of experience in software development. Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or C++ is essential, as is familiarity with software development methodologies and tools like Agile, Scrum, and Git. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment are required. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are also necessary to effectively convey technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree and a Call to the Nigerian Bar (B. L) are essential prerequisites for this role. Additionally, possessing professional certifications in Human Resource Management, such as CPM or SHRM, or in Administration, would provide a significant competitive edge.

A minimum of three to five years of post-call experience is required, with at least two years dedicated to legal advisory, corporate governance, or human resources administration. Preference will be given to candidates who have gained this experience within a financial institution or a structured corporate setting.

Proficient understanding of Nigerian banking laws, CBN and FDIC regulatory guidelines applicable to microfinance institutions, corporate legal frameworks, and labor regulations is required.

Exceptional drafting and negotiation abilities, strong organizational competencies, and outstanding emotional intelligence are required, along with a demonstrated commitment to discretion and confidentiality.

Requires strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) as well as legal research tools.
