An HSE Officer’s primary responsibility involves overseeing that all architectural projects, office operations, and construction activities adhere to health, safety, and environmental regulations. This role encompasses the creation and enforcement of safety policies, the execution of risk assessments, the fostering of a secure work environment, and the verification of compliance with applicable laws and industry standards.

Oversee a range of critical duties, including managing project timelines, coordinating team efforts, and ensuring adherence to established protocols. Conduct regular assessments to evaluate performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement and implementing strategic solutions. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align objectives, streamline workflows, and foster a culture of accountability. Maintain accurate documentation, prepare detailed reports, and communicate progress to stakeholders to facilitate informed decision-making.

Formulate, execute, and evaluate health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures to ensure compliance and operational excellence.

Perform routine site inspections and comprehensive safety audits on a scheduled basis.

Conduct thorough assessments of potential workplace hazards and propose appropriate measures to mitigate risks effectively.

Conduct comprehensive risk evaluations for architectural and construction initiatives to identify potential hazards and ensure project safety and compliance.

Verify adherence to all applicable local and corporate health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies and standards.

Conduct thorough inquiries into accidents, incidents, and near-miss occurrences, documenting findings in detailed reports.

Implement and oversee safety training initiatives, including employee and contractor inductions and awareness programs.

Ensure consistent compliance with the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) among all personnel.

Responsible for the upkeep and management of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) records, documentation, and reports ensuring compliance and accuracy.

Develop and implement strategic plans to ensure effective emergency preparedness and coordinated response efforts.

Provide strategic guidance to management regarding enhancements in safety protocols and adherence to regulatory standards.

Evaluate environmental effects and uphold rigorous waste management standards to ensure compliance and sustainability.

Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required, with a preference for candidates holding an advanced degree or specialized certification in education, instructional design, or a related discipline.

A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Architecture, or a closely related discipline is required.

Obtaining relevant professional certifications is essential for advancing your career and validating your expertise in a specific field. These credentials demonstrate your commitment to continuous learning and adherence to industry standards. Employers often prioritize candidates who possess such qualifications, as they indicate a higher level of competence and specialized knowledge. To qualify, you must meet the prerequisite education and experience requirements set by the certifying body. Additionally, passing rigorous examinations is typically mandatory to earn these certifications. Maintaining them often requires fulfilling ongoing professional development or continuing education obligations to stay current with evolving industry trends and best practices.

Preferred qualifications may encompass a range of industry-recognized certifications, such as PMP, CISSP, or Six Sigma, among others.

Candidates must possess certification from the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria.

Holders of a National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health Certificate or Diploma are required.

Professional and comprehensive certification in Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards is required.

Required to maintain a valid First Aid and CPR certification.

Experience

Seeking candidates with 1 to 3 years of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) experience, ideally within architecture, construction, engineering, or a closely related field.

Conducted comprehensive safety inspections and performed detailed risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with established safety protocols.
