Job Overview
The Health and Safety Officer (Transport) is tasked with ensuring full compliance of Denote Cement Transport’s transportation operations with all health and safety regulations. This role encompasses the design, execution, and enforcement of customized safety programs dedicated to transportation activities.
Oversee a variety of critical tasks, including managing daily operations to ensure efficiency, coordinating with cross-functional teams to align goals, and implementing strategic initiatives to drive growth. Serve as the primary liaison between departments, fostering collaboration and resolving interdepartmental challenges. Monitor performance metrics to identify trends, address operational bottlenecks, and recommend data-driven improvements. Ensure compliance with industry regulations and company policies while maintaining high standards of quality and accountability. Provide mentorship and guidance to team members, supporting their professional development and fostering a culture of continuous learning.
Formulate and execute comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures specifically tailored to transportation operations.
Perform routine inspections and audits to verify adherence to all applicable local and federal safety regulations.
Deliver instruction and support to transportation personnel regarding safety protocols, emergency protocols, and operational guidelines for equipment usage.
Evaluate potential risks and develop proactive measures to address and minimize disruptions in transportation operations.
Conduct comprehensive examinations of accidents and incidents to identify underlying causes and propose appropriate remedial measures.
Responsibilities include maintaining accurate safety records and compiling comprehensive reports on transportation safety performance.
Maintain liaison with local authorities and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with transportation safety standards.
Serve as an intermediary to address and resolve safety-related matters concerning the transportation fleet and its drivers.
Evaluate the performance of current safety initiatives and propose enhancements to strengthen their impact.
Attend safety meetings and deliver key safety data and actionable insights to senior leadership.
Requirements
A Bachelor of Science degree in Safety Management, Environmental Science, or an equivalent discipline is required.
A recognized credential in Occupational Health and Safety, such as a BOSH or JOSH certification, or an equivalent qualification, is required.
Applicants must possess at least two years of hands-on experience in a safety-focused position within the transportation or logistics industry.
A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a closely related field—ideally within the sciences or engineering disciplines—is required for consideration.
A recognized qualification such as a Professional Certificate or Diploma in fire, safety, health, or environmental management enhances candidacy, with credentials like BOSH, IGC, or NVQ Level 6 being particularly valuable.
Proficient in fleet safety management principles and practices is required.
Possesses comprehensive understanding of health and safety regulations pertinent to the transportation sector.
Skills and Competencies: Demonstrated proficiency in relevant technical and soft skills is essential, along with a commitment to best practices and continuous improvement.
