Job Overview

The Health and Safety Officer (Transport) is tasked with ensuring Denote Cement Transport’s transportation operations adhere to all relevant health and safety regulations. This involves designing, launching, and enforcing safety programs uniquely customized for transportation-related functions.

Assumes accountability for performing a range of critical tasks that drive operational excellence, including developing and executing strategic initiatives, maintaining meticulous records, and ensuring strict adherence to company policies and industry regulations. Collaborates effectively with cross-functional teams to align objectives, troubleshoot challenges, and optimize workflow efficiencies. Serves as a key contributor to project planning, risk assessment, and performance monitoring to achieve measurable outcomes. Communicates transparently with stakeholders to provide updates, address concerns, and foster a culture of continuous improvement. Participates in training programs and professional development opportunities to enhance technical competencies and leadership capabilities.

Craft and enforce health and safety policies and procedures specifically designed to govern transportation activities.

Perform routine inspections and audits to verify adherence to all applicable local and federal safety regulations.

Deliver comprehensive training and mentorship to transportation personnel regarding safety protocols, emergency response protocols, and proper equipment utilization.

Evaluate potential risks within transportation operations and develop and execute appropriate mitigation strategies to ensure safety and efficiency.

Conduct thorough examinations of accidents and incidents to identify underlying causes and propose appropriate corrective measures.

Responsibilities include maintaining accurate safety records and compiling detailed reports to evaluate transportation safety performance.

Liaise with local governing agencies and regulatory entities to ensure adherence to transportation safety protocols.

Serve as a key intermediary for addressing safety-related matters concerning the transportation fleet and its drivers.

Evaluate the performance of current safety programs and propose enhancements to optimize their effectiveness.

Attend safety meetings and deliver key safety data and insights to senior leadership.

Seeking a highly motivated individual with a minimum of five years of experience in a similar role to contribute to our dynamic team. The ideal candidate must possess exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, and demonstrate proficiency in project management software. A strong background in data analysis and a keen eye for detail are essential requirements. Additionally, the position demands the ability to work under pressure while meeting tight deadlines, along with a commitment to continuous learning and professional development. Prior experience in a leadership or mentoring capacity is highly desirable.

A Bachelor of Science degree in Safety Management, Environmental Science, or a closely related discipline is required.

A relevant certification in Occupational Health and Safety, such as BOSH, JOSH, or an equivalent qualification, is required.

A minimum of two years of hands-on experience in a safety-focused position within the transportation or logistics industry is required.

A degree in Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a closely related field—ideally within the sciences or engineering disciplines—is required.

A recognized qualification in fire safety, health, environmental management, or a related discipline—such as a BOSH, IGC, or NVQ Level 6 certification—enhances an applicant’s profile.

Proficiency in fleet safety management principles and practices is essential to this role. A strong understanding of safety regulations, risk mitigation strategies, and compliance standards within a fleet operations context is required. The ability to identify hazards, implement preventive measures, and ensure adherence to safety protocols will be critical to success in this position.

Demonstrated proficiency in interpersonal communication, problem-solving, and adaptability, with a strong emphasis on professionalism and teamwork.
