Job Summary
A well-established and expanding Microfinance Bank located in Elite State seeks a detail-oriented, compliance-focused, and highly qualified finance professional to assume the role of Account Officer (Financial Control & Regulatory Returns).
Reporting directly to the Head of Financial Control (HFC), the ideal candidate will be responsible for upholding the accuracy and reliability of the bank’s financial records, guaranteeing full compliance with regulatory reporting requirements set by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), while overseeing routine accounting activities.
Oversee and execute a comprehensive range of critical duties, including but not limited to strategic planning, team leadership, and operational oversight, to ensure alignment with organizational objectives. Develop and implement policies, procedures, and best practices to enhance efficiency, productivity, and compliance across all functions. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive innovation, streamline workflows, and achieve measurable performance targets. Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess progress, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions as needed. Maintain open communication channels with stakeholders to provide updates, address concerns, and foster a collaborative work environment. Ensure adherence to industry regulations, safety standards, and ethical guidelines while promoting a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Prepare, review, and submit daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly statutory returns to the Central Bank of Nigeria (via FINA or applicable platforms), the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), and other relevant regulatory bodies with precision and timeliness.
Maintain precise general ledger accounts, verify journal entries, and ensure adherence to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and applicable national accounting regulations in all financial transactions.
Perform regular and detailed bank reconciliations, inter-branch account reconciliations, and balance sheet reviews to identify and address discrepancies in a timely manner.
Provide support for tax administration by calculating, submitting, and paying all applicable statutory taxes, including Withholding Tax (WHT), Value Added Tax (VAT), and Pay As You Earn (PAYE) to both state and federal tax authorities.
Provide budgetary support by collaborating with the Head of Financial Control to develop annual budgets, manage budgetary control procedures, and perform variance analyses.
Maintain and update the bank’s fixed asset register with precision, ensuring accurate tracking of depreciation and capital expenditures.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is required. Minimum five years of experience in electrical design, preferably within industrial or commercial sectors, is essential. Proficiency in AutoCAD and Refit is necessary. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are crucial. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment is important. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are required. Knowledge of NEC (National Electrical Code) and OSHA regulations is a must.
A Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a closely related field is required.
Minimum of two to four years of hands-on accounting or financial control experience is required, with a preference for candidates who have worked in regulated financial institutions such as Microfinance Banks or Deposit Money Banks.
Proficient in navigating the CBN Revised Regulatory and Supervisory Guidelines for Microfinance Banks, IFRS standards, and financial reporting formats with a comprehensive level of expertise.
Professional certifications, whether achieved in full or at an intermediate stage, such as ICAN (ACA), ARCA, or CBN (ACID), will significantly enhance a candidate’s profile.
Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, with practical experience leveraging modern Core Banking Applications (CBA) and regulatory reporting portals.
