Job Summary

A leading Microfinance Bank headquartered in Elite State is in search of a seasoned, results-driven professional to fill the role of Head, Audit and Risk Management (HARM), requiring exceptional analytical acumen, unwavering objectivity, and extensive industry experience.

The ideal candidate will deliver unbiased assurance and advisory services aimed at enhancing the bank’s operational efficiency and effectiveness. Reporting directly to the Board Audit & Risk Management Committee for functional oversight and to the Managing Director/CEO for administrative purposes, the Head of Audit, Risk, and Compliance (HARD) will lead the internal audit, risk management, and regulatory compliance functions to protect the bank’s assets and uphold operational reliability.

Oversee a comprehensive range of core duties encompassing strategic planning, operational execution, and performance oversight to ensure organizational objectives are met with precision and efficiency. Develop and implement innovative policies, procedures, and workflows designed to enhance productivity, streamline processes, and maintain compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. Provide leadership and guidance to cross-functional teams, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages professional growth, accountability, and high-performance outcomes. Monitor key performance indicators, analyze data trends, and generate actionable insights to drive continuous improvement and sustainable business success. Serve as a primary liaison between senior management and departmental stakeholders, facilitating transparent communication, alignment of priorities, and resolution of complex operational challenges.

Develop and execute a robust, risk-focused annual internal audit strategy to assess the efficacy of the bank’s internal control frameworks and accounting systems.

The position involves executing the Risk Management Framework by proactively identifying, evaluating, monitoring, and addressing operational, credit, liquidity, and strategic risks present throughout all departments and branches.

Ensure strict adherence to all regulatory mandates issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), alongside compliance with FDIC regulations and applicable statutory requirements.

Conduct a comprehensive assessment of internal control systems, credit disbursement protocols, and financial transactions to identify and mitigate potential errors, fraudulent activities, or resource mismanagement.

Conduct targeted investigations into potential fraudulent behavior, policy violations, or inefficiencies within operations, and propose appropriate corrective measures.

Prepare and deliver comprehensive, unbiased periodic reports on audit findings, risk exposures, and compliance status for the Board Audit Committee and Executive Management.

Candidates must meet the following qualifications to be considered for this position. A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required, along with a minimum of three years of professional experience in a related industry. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential, as is the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Excellent communication and organizational abilities are also necessary to succeed in this role. Proficiency in industry-specific software and tools is a key requirement, and familiarity with project management methodologies is preferred.

Candidates must possess at least a Bachelor’s degree or a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.

Professionals should possess a minimum of five to eight years of professional experience within the financial services sector, including at least three years in a leadership or managerial capacity focused on Internal Audit, Risk Management, or Compliance within a Microfinance Bank or Deposit Money Bank.

Professional Membership: Candidates must possess recognized professional qualifications, including ACA (ICAN), ARCA, or CIA, to meet the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) fit and proper criteria for this position. Additional consideration will be given to those holding the ACID designation.

Evidence of enrollment in or successful completion of the Microfinance Certification Program (MCP) is strongly preferred as a qualification.

Proficient in internal audit methodologies, risk assessment frameworks, fraud detection in financial contexts, and compliance with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Revised Regulatory & Supervisory Guidelines for Microfinance Banks.

Professional skepticism at a high level, unwavering integrity, strong critical analytical abilities, and superior reporting proficiency are required.
