As a boarding school cook, your responsibilities include preparing wholesome, large-scale meals for students and staff while strictly complying with food safety, hygiene, and dietary standards. This position encompasses menu development, extensive ingredient preparation, inventory oversight, and ensuring a pristine kitchen environment, with frequent early morning, evening, or weekend shift assignments.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Food Preparation involves curating and preparing nutritious, visually appealing meals tailored to the needs of large student and faculty populations. This role requires the development of well-balanced menus that meet dietary standards while ensuring high culinary quality and presentation.
Dietary Accommodations: Develop customized recipes and prepare alternative meal options to address students’ allergies, religious dietary preferences, and medical dietary requirements.
Ensure rigorous compliance with health and safety protocols, encompassing appropriate food storage practices, precise temperature regulation, and meticulous cleaning of the kitchen, dining hall, and all equipment.
Assist in overseeing inventory and stock management tasks, including receiving incoming food deliveries, tracking stock levels, and implementing strategies to minimize food waste.
Collaboration will be essential as you coordinate meal preparation schedules in partnership with the Head Chef or Kitchen Manager to ensure efficient alignment with the school’s daily bell schedule.
