Job Summary
HR Leverage Africa is seeking a dynamic and adaptable Canteen Manager on behalf of its client. The successful candidate will oversee the comprehensive management of the canteen as a standalone business unit, ensuring operational excellence, staff coordination, financial oversight, expenditure management, supply procurement, performance reporting, and exceptional client service within a fast-paced food service setting.
Key duties encompass overseeing daily operations, ensuring adherence to company policies, and maintaining high standards of quality across all deliverables. Responsibilities include managing a team to achieve performance targets, collaborating with cross-functional departments to streamline workflows, and addressing any operational challenges that may arise. Additionally, the role involves monitoring key performance indicators, conducting performance reviews, and implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency. Accountability for budget management, resource allocation, and compliance with regulatory requirements also falls under this position’s purview. Furthermore, the individual will serve as a liaison between senior leadership and frontline staff, facilitating clear communication and alignment with organizational goals.
Responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the canteen, including food preparation, service delivery, and workflow optimization.
Responsible for overseeing the entire team, including chefs, cooks, stewards, cleaners, and storekeepers, while also coordinating and managing shift schedules to ensure smooth operations.
Monitor and oversee food expenditures, ensuring strict adherence to budgetary allocations while minimizing waste and optimizing inventory utilization.
Oversee the procurement process and cultivate strategic partnerships with suppliers to ensure timely acquisition of high-quality materials and services.
Maintain rigorous adherence to HACCP, hygiene, and food safety protocols at all times.
Compiles and analyzes data to produce operational reports—such as daily, weekly, and monthly updates—with comprehensive cost and performance evaluations.
Act as the primary point of contact, facilitating seamless communication and coordination between clients and canteen management teams.
Maintain uniform service standards and uphold high levels of customer satisfaction throughout all interactions.
Seeking a candidate with a minimum of five years of experience in a relevant field, along with a Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline. Proficiency in industry-specific software and tools is essential, complemented by strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are required to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. Additionally, the ideal applicant will demonstrate a proven track record of meeting deadlines and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
With a substantial background spanning several years in oversight roles within canteen, catering, restaurant, or hospitality operations, candidates should possess hands-on experience in managing such environments effectively.
Accomplished professionals with a proven track record in budget administration, sourcing initiatives, and strategic vendor partnerships are encouraged to apply. Demonstrated proficiency in leading substantial teams within fast-paced, high-capacity food service environments.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or other reporting tools would be considered a valuable asset.
Candidates should possess proven experience in one or more of the following capacities: Canteen Manager, Restaurant Manager overseeing high-volume operations, Hospitality Operations Manager, or Catering Manager.
