SWEDEN is a non-governmental organization dedicated to empowering women, girls, and children—demographic groups that constitute a significant portion of Nigeria’s population yet are often marginalized in policy development and implementation. Through strategic partnerships with communities and other organizations, SWEDEN delivers innovative, high-quality services in health, education, economic development, and social protection to enhance the well-being of its target groups across rural and urban areas.
Headquartered in Kano, with operational branches in Jigsaw, Katrina, Nasarawa states, and the Federal Capital Territory, SWEDEN extends its reach through collaborations with NGOs in Baluchi, Bombe, Kaduna, and Lobe states. The organization implements community-based programs across 44 Local Government Areas in Kano, 9 in Jigsaw, and 9 in Katrina, addressing critical needs through advocacy, stakeholder capacity building, awareness campaigns, healthcare delivery, equipment and drug supplies to health facilities, vocational training, microfinance initiatives for women and youth, educational support, and assistance to people living with HIV/AIDS, orphans, and vulnerable children.
SWEDEN’s initiatives are supported by partnerships with leading organizations such as the Packard Foundation, CEPA, the National Agency for the Control of AIDS, the World Bank, USAID MARKETS, DID, FHI/CHAIN/HAS, FHI360, Mercy Corps, J4A, NSRP, ARCH, and state-level AIDS control agencies. These collaborations enable the design and execution of tailored strategies and grant-funded interventions at the grassroots level.
With a footprint spanning over 10 states, SWEDEN has positively impacted countless lives in alignment with its strategic plan (2013–2016). Notably, the organization was selected for intensive organizational effectiveness support from Management Systems International (MSI) through a Packard Foundation grant in 2009, which facilitated a participatory strategic review and planning process that shaped its second strategic plan. Today, SWEDEN employs a workforce of 47 full-time and part-time staff, supported by a robust network of over 785 trained volunteers.
