Basic Function:

The role involves managing the treatment of severe acute malnutrition (SAM), both with and without complications, delivering nutrition rehabilitation for hospitalized SAM cases, and preventing further decline through the administration of therapeutic feeds and essential medicines. Additionally, the position will involve overseeing health and nutrition counseling, as well as the capacity building of Community-Based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CAM) assistants.

We are seeking an experienced professional to fulfill the following duties and responsibilities: overseeing daily operations to ensure efficiency and productivity, managing a team of professionals to achieve organizational goals, implementing strategic initiatives to drive growth and innovation, maintaining compliance with industry regulations and company policies, analyzing performance metrics to identify areas for improvement, fostering a collaborative work environment that supports employee development and engagement, and representing the organization in key stakeholder meetings and industry events. The ideal candidate will have a track record of success in a similar role, strong leadership and communication skills, and the ability to adapt to evolving business needs.

Lead community outreach initiatives and conduct mid-upper arm circumference screenings to actively identify cases of malnutrition in children under five within target communities and internally displaced persons (IDP) camps. Deliver Outpatient Therapeutic Program (OTP) services, perform defaulter tracing, conduct follow-up visits, and disseminate critical health messages at OTP sites. Monitor the timely identification of complications, non-responders, and facilitate two-way referrals to Stabilization Centers (SC) based on established criteria. Develop and implement Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CAM) work plans, analyze malnutrition trends from admission data, and conduct mortality audits at OTP sites. Assist the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) unit in assessments, focus group discussions, and the preparation and submission of timely reports.

Ensure meticulous documentation of services, continuously track OTP performance metrics, and support the effective management of severely acutely malnourished (SAM) children with complications at the SC. Verify accurate clinical diagnoses, conduct thorough health assessments, and administer appropriate treatments in accordance with program protocols. Uphold and enforce all clinical criteria—including admission, discharge, and transfer protocols—between OTP and SC facilities. Perform daily ward rounds, design a 24-hour call-duty roster for CMA MSC assistants, and conduct weekly and monthly inventory checks of nutrition supplies to ensure stock accountability and availability. Coordinate pre-positioning of medical and food supplies in collaboration with logistics teams, oversee the preparation of safe therapeutic milk and food for admitted SAM children and caregivers, and collaborate with SCC MAM assistants to reinforce protocol adherence and referral processes.

Ensure comprehensive health evaluations, including vital sign monitoring, medication administration, and feeding schedules, strictly following established guidelines. Report progress and escalate challenges promptly, address technical inquiries related to program admissions and discharges, and maintain updated patient records, including critical care pathway (CCP) cards and OTP follow-up cards, to ensure accuracy, completeness, and patient progress tracking. Deliver targeted health education messages to beneficiaries in alignment with protocols and guidelines. Compile statistical data on admissions, defaults, cures, absences, and deaths, and draft activity reports. Assist in conducting Standardized Monitoring and Assessment of Relief and Transition (SMART), Semi-Quantitative Evaluation of Access and Coverage (SQUEAK), and other nutrition surveys at the Local Government Area (LGA) level. Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Duties Include: Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless project execution, maintaining meticulous documentation of all processes and outcomes, and providing timely updates to stakeholders regarding progress and any arising issues. This role may also entail conducting regular audits to verify compliance with established protocols, coordinating training sessions for new team members, and assisting in the development of long-term strategic initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.

Professional experience within a clinical environment is considered advantageous.

Skilled in compiling and submitting weekly and monthly program reports with precision and timeliness.

Adaptability and flexibility are essential to thrive in this role, as daily work may require adjustments to accommodate evolving priorities and unforeseen challenges.

Seeking a candidate with a minimum of three years of relevant experience in a similar role, complemented by a bachelor’s degree in a related field. Proficiency in industry-standard software and tools is essential, along with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are required to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. Familiarity with project management methodologies and compliance regulations is preferred. The ideal applicant will demonstrate adaptability, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to continuous learning and professional growth.

A Bachelor of Science in Nursing coupled with 1–3 years of professional experience is required, or alternatively, an MBBS degree with at least one year of relevant experience. Prior involvement with a humanitarian organization is considered a valuable asset.
