Basic Function:

The role involves managing the treatment of severe acute malnutrition (SAM), both with and without complications, and delivering nutrition rehabilitation to admitted SAM cases. The position aims to prevent further deterioration by administering therapeutic feeds and both routine and specialized medications. Additionally, the individual will supervise health and nutrition counseling, as well as the capacity-building initiatives for CAM assistants.

Perform a range of duties and responsibilities that include, but are not limited to, overseeing daily operations, managing staff performance, and ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures. Responsibilities also encompass developing strategic plans to enhance productivity, conducting regular evaluations of team outputs, and fostering a collaborative work environment. Additionally, you will be tasked with identifying process improvements, analyzing operational data to drive informed decision-making, and maintaining compliance with industry regulations. The role requires strong leadership skills, exceptional organizational abilities, and a commitment to achieving organizational goals through effective team management and resource allocation.

Lead community outreach initiatives and conduct active case finding for malnutrition in children under five through mid-upper arm circumference (MAC) screenings. Deliver Outpatient Therapeutic Program (OTP) services within target communities and Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps while performing defaulter tracing and follow-up visits. Provide essential health education messaging at OTP sites and ensure timely identification of complications, non-responders, and two-way referrals to stabilization centers (SC) based on established protocols.

Develop comprehensive Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CAM) work plans, analyze malnutrition trends based on admissions, and conduct mortality audits at OTP sites. Assist the Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) unit in assessments, focus group discussions, and the preparation and submission of timely reports. Maintain meticulous documentation of services and continuously track OTP performance metrics. Manage the care of Severely Acute Malnutrition (SAM) children with complications at the Stabilization Center (SC), ensuring accurate clinical diagnoses, thorough health assessments, and adherence to treatment protocols.

Uphold all program criteria for admission, discharge, and transfers between OTP and SC, while supervising daily ward rounds and developing a 24-hour duty roster for CAMPS assistants. Conduct weekly and monthly inventory checks of nutrition supplies to verify stock levels, ensure availability of medical and food supplies, and coordinate with logistics to pre-position stock as planned. Oversee the preparation of safe therapeutic milk and food for admitted SAM children and their caregivers, ensuring strict adherence to protocols.

Collaborate closely with CAM assistants at the SC to reinforce protocol adherence, facilitate appropriate referrals to and from the OTP, and monitor comprehensive health checks, vital signs, medication administration, and feeding schedules. Report progress and challenges promptly, address technical inquiries regarding program admissions and discharges, and maintain updated patient records, including critical care pathway (CCP) cards and OTP follow-up cards, to ensure accuracy and continuity of care.

Deliver key health and nutrition education messages to beneficiaries in alignment with established protocols and guidelines. Compile statistical data on admissions, defaults, cures, absences, and deaths, and draft activity reports. Support the implementation of Standardized Monitoring and Assessment of Relief and Transition (SMART), Semi-Quantitative Evaluation of Access and Coverage (SQUEAK), and other nutrition surveys at the LGA level. Perform other duties as assigned.

Oversee supplementary duties as required; enhance operational efficiency through strategic contributions; ensure alignment with organizational objectives by fulfilling assigned tasks promptly and accurately; maintain meticulous attention to detail in executing secondary functions to support broader team goals.
