Job Summary
The Assistant Manager, Accounts will be responsible for supporting the effective management of the organization’s accounting operations and ensuring accurate financial reporting. The role involves overseeing daily accounting activities, maintaining the integrity of financial records, supporting month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, and providing financial insights to support business operations and decision-taking
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Analysis
Assist in the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS and applicable accounting standards.
Perform variance analysis between actual results and budgets, providing explanations for significant differences.
Support management with financial analysis, reporting, and forecasting activities.
Prepare management reports and schedules for decision-making purposes.
Accounting Operations & Controls
Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the General Ledger (GL) and ensure all accounting entries are properly recorded.
Review and monitor bank reconciliations, ledger reconciliations, and intercompany balances.
Supervise Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes to ensure timely payments and collections.
Ensure proper documentation and authorization of all accounting transactions.
Support month-end and year-end closing activities within agreed timelines.
Compliance & Taxation
Ensure timely preparation and filing of statutory obligations including VAT, WHT, PAYE, and other regulatory filings.
Maintain compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and applicable tax regulations.
Assist in implementing and monitoring internal controls to safeguard company assets and minimize financial risks.
Coordinate and support internal and external audit exercises by providing required schedules and documentation.
Budgeting & Cash Flow Management
Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
Monitor budget performance and report on variances.
Support cash flow monitoring by tracking operational expenditures and payment schedules.
Assist in ensuring optimal utilization of company financial resources.
Team Support & Process Improvement
Supervise and provide guidance to junior accounting staff to ensure accuracy and efficiency in operations.
Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing accounting processes and reporting efficiency.
Assist in automating and streamlining accounting workflows where applicable.
Job Requirements
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or any related discipline.
Professional certification such as ACA, ACCA, or equivalent is mandatory or highly preferred.
Minimum of 4–6 years relevant accounting experience, preferably within the Audit and Consulting Space with manufacturing or FMCG audit exposure.
Prior supervisory or team leadership experience is an added advantage
Technical Skills
Proficiency in ERP/accounting systems such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar platforms.
Strong Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial reporting tools.
Sound knowledge of IFRS, tax regulations, financial controls, and accounting principles.
Good understanding of cost accounting and inventory management processes.
