About the Job

A highly skilled and meticulous Coating & Painting Inspector (QA/QC) is required to support our operations in Isopoda, Lagos.

The successful applicant must demonstrate extensive proficiency in welding inspection, coating and painting quality control, fabrication processes, and adherence to international standards across manufacturing, oil & gas, steel structures, transmission towers, telecom towers, and general fabrication settings.

Oversee and execute critical duties essential to the role, ensuring adherence to established protocols and achieving departmental objectives through meticulous planning and consistent performance. Additionally, collaborate cross-functionally to streamline workflows, resolve operational challenges, and support team initiatives aimed at enhancing productivity and efficiency. Maintain accurate documentation, track progress against key metrics, and provide timely reports to stakeholders to facilitate informed decision-making. Serve as a resource for colleagues, offering guidance and resolving issues to uphold service standards and operational excellence.

Conduct coating and painting inspections in strict adherence to approved project specifications, established procedures, and recognized international standards.

Perform inspections to verify surface preparation, coating application, dry film thickness (DFT) measurements, adhesion testing, holiday testing, and final coating assessments.

Prepare, evaluate, and authorize Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Qualification Tests (WQT) in accordance with applicable standards and project requirements.

Oversee fabrication and welding operations to verify adherence to quality standards and project-specific requirements.

Interpret fabrication drawings, welding symbols, and assembly drawings.

Verify adherence to all relevant codes, standards, and client specifications.

Create comprehensive inspection reports, maintain precise quality records, and ensure all documentation meets ISO standards and project-specific requirements.

Monitor welding operations to ensure compliance with established procedures, employing processes including Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTA), Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FLAW), and Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMA).

Coordinate and oversee non-destructive testing (NDT) operations, encompassing visual testing (VT), magnetic particle testing (MT), liquid penetrant testing (PT), ultrasonic testing (UT), and radiographic testing (RT).

Conduct thorough investigations into quality discrepancies, execute comprehensive root cause analyses, and develop and execute corrective and preventive measures to resolve issues.

Contribute to the development and deployment of welding jigs and fixtures with the aim of enhancing quality standards and minimizing distortion.

Engage in both internal and external audits while maintaining strict adherence to ISO/IMS protocols and standards.

Assist in the execution of 5S methodologies and the establishment of workplace safety protocols.

Work collaboratively with production, engineering, maintenance, and quality teams to ensure successful project outcomes.

Requirements

A Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in disciplines such as Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Welding Engineering, or a closely related field is required.

Minimum of six to eight years of hands-on expertise in welding inspection, coating evaluation, painting inspection, and fabrication quality control is required.

Professionals with a background in oil and gas, steel production, structural fabrication, transmission or telecom tower assembly, solar structure installation, or comparable sectors are encouraged to apply.

Expertise in fabrication methodologies and quality assurance protocols is required.

Skilled in analyzing engineering drawings, interpreting welding symbols, and applying relevant codes and standards with precision.

Proficient in ISO Quality Management Systems, IMS requirements, and ERP/SAP systems is required.

Preferred certifications include industry-recognized credentials such as PMP, CAP, or PMI-ACP, which demonstrate a strong foundation in project management principles and methodologies. Additionally, certifications like Six Sigma, Lean, or ITIL highlight expertise in process optimization, continuous improvement, or IT service management. Candidates with relevant certifications in Agile, Scrum, or other specialized frameworks will be given preference, as these validate adaptability and proficiency in modern project execution approaches.

Professionals should hold one or more of the following certifications:

AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CGI) candidates must hold a high school diploma or equivalent and possess at least five years of welding-related experience, with a minimum of two years in a supervisory or inspection role. Proficiency in interpreting blueprints, codes, and specifications is essential, along with a strong understanding of welding processes, procedures, and quality control standards. Certification requires passing a comprehensive exam administered by the American Welding Society (AWS), demonstrating expertise in nondestructive testing methods and familiarity with industry regulations. Responsibilities include conducting inspections to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards, documenting findings, and providing corrective guidance to welding personnel. Effective communication skills and attention to detail are critical for this role.

Certified professionals holding NACE Coating Inspector Level 1, Level 2, or Level 3 credentials—or alternatively, those possessing AMP Coating Inspector Certification—are required for this position.

We are seeking a certified GAS-CSWIP Painting Inspector to oversee and ensure the quality of protective coating applications. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of coating systems, surface preparation standards, and inspection methodologies as per industry regulations. Responsibilities include conducting thorough visual and non-destructive testing, documenting inspection findings, and verifying compliance with project specifications and safety protocols. Proficiency in using inspection tools and interpreting technical standards is essential, along with strong attention to detail and effective communication skills to collaborate with project teams and stakeholders.

CS WIP Welding Inspector Certification at least Level 3.1 is required for this position.

AUNT Level II Certification in nondestructive testing (NDT) methods, including visual testing (VT), magnetic particle testing (MT), liquid penetrant testing (PT), ultrasonic testing (UT), and radiographic testing (RT), is required.

The certification as an ISO 9001 Internal Auditor requires demonstrated expertise in quality management systems (QMS) and a thorough understanding of the ISO 9001:2015 standard. Candidates must possess strong analytical skills to evaluate processes, identify non-conformities, and recommend corrective actions. Experience conducting internal audits, documenting findings, and ensuring compliance with QMS requirements is essential. Effective communication skills are necessary to report audit results, present findings to management, and collaborate with cross-functional teams. Familiarity with audit methodologies, risk-based thinking, and continuous improvement principles is highly advantageous.

BOSH, HSE Levels 1 through 3 certifications, or equivalent safety qualifications, are required.
