Job Summary

The Legal Officer will deliver expert legal and regulatory guidance to the organization, proactively identify and mitigate legal risks, conduct thorough contract reviews, maintain strict adherence to all relevant laws, and actively participate in corporate governance initiatives.

Oversee and execute a range of critical duties encompassing strategic planning, operational oversight, and team leadership to ensure organizational efficiency and goal attainment. Lead cross-functional initiatives, collaborating with diverse departments to streamline processes and enhance productivity. Monitor key performance indicators, analyze data trends, and implement corrective actions to drive continuous improvement. Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and professional development within the team while aligning individual objectives with broader company objectives. Manage stakeholder relationships, ensuring clear communication, transparency, and alignment on project milestones and deliverables.

Prepare, examine, and finalize contracts, agreements, and other legally binding documents, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable regulations.

Deliver expert legal counsel and authoritative opinions regarding corporate and commercial affairs.

Facilitate adherence to regulatory standards and maintain effective communication channels with relevant regulatory bodies as necessary.

Provide support in overseeing litigation processes and collaborating with external legal representatives.

Perform comprehensive legal research and continuously track legal and regulatory updates to ensure organizational compliance and strategic alignment.

Facilitate the administration of corporate governance and company secretarial functions to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and organizational policies.

Conduct a thorough examination of internal policies and procedures to ensure full adherence to legal requirements.

Ensure the accurate maintenance and up-to-date status of statutory registers and corporate records.

Draft required legal reports, briefs, and other relevant documentation in accordance with established standards and deadlines.

Seeking a candidate with a relevant academic background and prior work experience in a comparable role. Applicants should possess the necessary qualifications to perform the duties effectively. The ideal candidate will have completed formal education in a pertinent field and accumulated hands-on experience in a professional setting.

Possesses Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) and Bachelor of Law (B. L) degrees, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of legal principles and frameworks.

Requires three to seven years of post-call experience.

Professional legal experience, whether in-house or within a corporate setting, is strongly preferred.

Requires proven expertise in drafting and reviewing contractual agreements.

Comprehensive understanding of corporate and commercial regulations within Nigeria is essential.

Required competencies include proficiency in relevant software applications, strong analytical abilities, effective communication skills, and the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively. Applicants should demonstrate prior experience in project management, an understanding of industry regulations, and a commitment to continuous professional development. Knowledge of data analysis techniques, problem-solving methodologies, and stakeholder engagement strategies is essential. Additionally, familiarity with compliance frameworks and the ability to interpret complex information are highly desirable.
