Purpose of Job
The Regional Coordinator – Technical Programs serves as a senior technical authority, overseeing the strategic alignment and execution of Africa CDC’s primary technical programs and initiatives through the Regional Coordinating Centre. This role delivers advanced technical leadership, facilitates the uniform adoption of Africa CDC strategies across Member States, and ensures cohesive integration of surveillance, laboratory systems, preparedness and response frameworks, and workforce development initiatives at the regional level.
The incumbent will also facilitate the integration of the Africa Health Security and Sovereignty Agenda (AHS) pillars—particularly digital health, public financial management, and supply chain/PPM—within Member States across the RCC.
The incumbent reports directly to the RCC Leadership and collaborates closely with technical divisions at the Africa CDC Headquarters.
Oversee and execute a range of critical tasks to ensure operational efficiency and compliance. Develop and implement strategic initiatives aligned with organizational goals, while monitoring performance metrics to drive continuous improvement. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for innovation and process optimization. Convert Africa CDC’s continental strategies, frameworks, and guidelines into region-specific technical implementation plans and standard operating procedures.
Offer specialized technical guidance to RCC leadership and Member States concerning surveillance systems, laboratory operations, emergency preparedness and response, antimicrobial resistance, and priority disease control initiatives.
Conduct comprehensive technical evaluations, including situation analyses, risk assessments, and gap analyses, to shape regional priorities and guide investment decisions.

A Master’s Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Infectious Diseases, Laboratory Sciences, Health Security, Pharmacy, or a related field is required, along with at least 10 years of professional experience in public health practice—specifically in infectious disease epidemiology, monitoring, and surveillance. Among these years, a minimum of six must be dedicated to expert-level roles, and at least three must involve supervisory responsibilities.
