The Health and Safety Officer (Transport) is tasked with ensuring full compliance of Denote Cement Transport’s transportation operations with all applicable health and safety regulations. This involves designing, rolling out, and enforcing targeted safety programs designed to address the unique risks associated with transportation operations.
Oversee daily operations to ensure smooth workflow, maintaining high standards of efficiency and productivity. Implement and enforce organizational policies, procedures, and safety protocols to promote a secure and compliant work environment. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align objectives, resolve challenges, and drive project progress. Monitor performance metrics, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions as needed. Conduct regular training sessions to enhance employee skills and foster professional development. Serve as a key liaison between management and staff, facilitating clear communication and addressing concerns. Manage budgets, allocate resources, and optimize expenditures to support organizational goals. Ensure adherence to industry regulations and quality standards while upholding company values and mission.
Formulate and execute comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures specifically tailored to transportation operations.
Perform routine inspections and audits to verify adherence to local and federal safety regulations.
Deliver comprehensive training and mentorship to transportation personnel, focusing on safety protocols, emergency response protocols, and proper equipment utilization.
Evaluate potential hazards and develop and execute strategies to mitigate risks associated with transportation operations.
Conduct thorough examinations of accidents and incidents to identify underlying causes and propose effective measures for prevention and improvement.
Maintain comprehensive safety records and generate detailed reports on transportation safety performance metrics.
Collaborate with municipal governments and regulatory agencies to ensure adherence to transportation safety regulations.
Serve as an intermediary for matters pertaining to safety issues within the transport fleet and among drivers.
Evaluate the performance of current safety initiatives and recommend enhancements to optimize their impact.
Attend safety meetings to deliver key safety data and insights to management.
Requirements
A Bachelor of Science degree in Safety Management, Environmental Science, or a closely related discipline is required.
A recognized certification in Occupational Health and Safety—such as BOSH, JOSH, or an equivalent qualification—is essential for this role.
A minimum of two years of relevant safety experience in the transportation or logistics industry is required.
A bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a closely related field—ideally within the sciences or engineering disciplines—is required.
A recognized qualification in fire, safety, health, or environmental management, such as a Professional Certificate or Diploma from an accredited institution—including BOSH, IGC, or NVQ Level 6—offers a competitive edge.
Skilled in fleet safety management principles is essential.
Proficient in health and safety regulations specifically governing transportation operations.
